Continental Upgrades

Hi guys,

I live in Scotland and I just got back from a week in Vegas a couple of weeks ago to notice that my OnePass account now has 18k miles in it - 2k off what I need to upgrade one leg of my next flight.

It just so happens that I'm flying to Hawaii in Sept and I am looking to upgrade for my return leg. I'll have to buy the 2k miles ($37 + tax per 1k) whic isn't a problem however I noticed that on my fare (Q) there is a $400 charge to upgrade.

It's still a bargain, so not complaining, however just wondering if anyone know is this is mandatory i.e. can they sometimes wave it or charge you less?

Any other hints and tips appreciated.

Thanks
Lewis

BusinessFirst upgrades have the mileage + copay requirement as you specified. Higher fare classes have a lower copay. W is a fairly low class, hence the high copay.
