LAX Terminal 6 Security Changes

I'm in the PC at LAX now. There are some minor changes in the security screening lines which I noticed this morning, which must have been implemented in the last month:

The two podiums at the bottom of the escalators are gone. The regular queue extended pretty far back this morning. There were only 3 of us in the elite line, but the TSA agent who mans the elite line was doing double duty further up front, alternately letting mass numbers of people through to the escalator before opening up the elite line to let the elites through. Sound familiar (a la UA T-7 next door )?

The TSA agents who check the ID's and boarding passes are now at the top of the escalators, in 3 different queues. There is no longer one snaking queue which then breaks up towards the front. Now you pick your queue right at the beginning, and you're stuck with it.

Thankfully, I did not see any nude-o-meters this morning.

Thanks for the post - I'm flying out tomorrow morning on CO and didn't realize they got rid of the podiums.

I experienced this on my last flight as well last week. As a UA flyer, primarily out of terminal 7, I frequently use T6 to pass through security when the lines are short. Impossible to know how long the line is now that the queuing area is upstairs and not visible from the UA check-in area.

As a weekly traveler to/from LAX, I noticed the change last Friday (the Friday before was as it used to me). I was told this just happend. I asked TSA agents and PC ladies if there would be an Elite line at the top but no one knew as this just changed. It didn't matter that much to me last week since there were only handful of people at security. But today might be a different story as I am leaving at more of a busier time. We shall see.

I just flew home from LAX yesterday. No elite line at the top of the escalator, just at the bottom. You are right in with the hoi polloi However, the lines actually moved very quickly with 3 different TSA check-in podiums. No issues for me...

I was there two weeks ago and they still had the podiums at the bottom of the stairs. Only one agent for the elite and non-elite lines, but it wasn't particularly busy at that time.

Likewise I was there about two weeks ago and similarly to CO 1E there were podiums at the bottom of the stairs.

Was at LAX terminal 6 yesterday.

While there was an elite security line downstairs, it was closed since only one agent was checking boarding passes. The non-elite line downstairs was huge.

I kindly asked the agent if he would let me in while showing him by elite card, and he did, but that was unacceptable, I don't see many elites doing this. Let's hope TSA/CO solve this issue promptly.

After I passed the security line downstairs, there were only 15-20 people in front of my upstairs.

This shouldn't be a TSA issue - it should be between CO and LA World Airports Authority. TSA has no jurisdiction to decide how the lines are managed downstairs - they do what LAWA tells them to, and LAWA determines policy based on what it worked out with the leaseholders (airlines).

If anyone is passing through the airport, ask the counter staff for the Station Manager's email address - drop them a note and ask if they are aware of, and authorized the security line changes at the 6x concourse.

They may not even know of the change or be aware of the impact - and they are the best contact to either tell you why it was done or escalate it if it was not authorized.

I had great success working with the super Station Manager at FLL to improve the Elite Access experience at security - I'm sure the LAX SM will be just as helpful.

The new security setup at T-6 seems to be operating a bit more efficiently now.

The 3 lines at the top of the escalator have now been pared down to two lines, which is a bit less confusing when you have to quickly scan and choose a line.

The TSA agent controlling the crowd at the bottom of the escalator seemed to be on his game today, and let me and one other elite through without having to wait.
