Continental interested in merger with United Airlines

http://www.thenewstribune.com/2010/0...in-merger.html

....

..."Continental Airlines Inc. would make the best merger partner for United Airlines, creating the world’s largest carrier, an analyst said Friday.
Executives at Continental started reviewing options this week after hearing that United is talking to US Airways Group Inc. about merging, according to a person familiar with the matter who asked not to be identified because details are confidential"....

edit note: This is a NEW story dated today post UA-US talks, not related to the old threads.

Ciao,
FH

Ok this is news.

In the past it has always been UA interested in CO, now it is the other way around. If true this is major change in CO corporate policy.

OT
AZ MilleMiglia?!?!? How much self loathing do you have?

Yeep.

And if UA&CO tie the knot, US will *still* want to merge with them. Airline orgy o-rama.

Whatever. I demand compensation.

I do hope if (maybe more of when now?) we merge, they should adopt the Continental website design. I find it to be much better and friendlier than .bomb.

Info. about CO executives "reviewing options" was mentioned in the first release disclosing UA/US talks. Nothing to get worked up about.

How does "reviewing options" equate to "bidding for UA"?

Will Kellner step in with private equity to fund a CO buyout of UA, to ensure CO management is at the helm?

While we are speculating, might as well go whole hog.

"Reviewing options" could also mean deciding where to go for lunch---this is a favorite all-purpose phrase in my office.

WOW - I will be happy in onepass and mileage plus merge, however WITHOUT starnet blocking.

This devalues the program entirely.

Well I hope, as does Gordo in the chronicle article, that CO does not merge. I don't see much gain from my flying viewpoint. If I was still a shareholder in CO, I'd want to see the details before saying it would be a benefit.

It seems that with the UA/US talk the media and business pubs are talking a much quicker, and more in-depth view on CO and possible action.

Ciao,
FH
