Stand-by Q
I am booked on a flight on Sunday DEN-EWR, can I go to the airport and stand-by for a flight on Saturday the day before. Having not done this before, I am curious if it will it cost me anything? FYI I am a Plat if that makes a difference. (Sorry if this has been discussed, I did a search and could not find anything.

The FAQ covers this in some detail - I'd suggest reading that first.
What you're doing here is called a same day change (SDC). You can change to another flight, starting 24hrs before the original flight you're on, and move to any flight within 24 hours of the current time.
If inventory is available in your original booking class you can confirm this. This can be done online or over the phone. If it's not available, you can go to the airport within the 24hr period and be put on standby on any flight subject to the same time constraints above.
So if your original flight was Sunday morning, starting on Saturday morning at the same time you can either get confirmed on, or go to the airport and standby for, any flight between then and the same time the next day.
Hope this helps.

I would suggest that at the 24-hour mark, -- that the OP call the elite line & request the SDC for the first flight that s/he is eligible to change to. Of course, this can be done at the airport, but if the first eligible flight is several hours within the 24 hr window -- the OP wouldn't necessarily be at the airport at the 24 hr mark! GL!^

I called at the 24 hour mark and the flight I wanted was oversold. I could have headed to Airport, but it seemed like a crap shoot, and as I had a res at a airport hotel, I stayed with the original flight, Anyway thanks to all for your advise.

Sometimes the "same" flight operates at different times on different days, so doing SDC to the same flight a day earlier might be possible on rare occasions. I've never tried it myself.
