Very amusing thread. Thanks for making me chuckle.
I was on IAH - GIG last week and asked the BF concierge how much would a buy up to BF cost. He priced it out at over 4k
He even said how expensive it was and that they get last minute oil and gas ppl to buy those tickets, and that's how they make money.
On a side note: Going to Rio on business? Lucky! ^

Well, turns out it's an E fare. 
I checked availability anyway, and fortunately there was none --removed a dilemma, and I'll pocket the miles for later. . . .

I am doing an analysis of upgrades, selfish one totally as it's the routes I fly. I think I'd like to know better if rarity of upgrades is my imagination as has been suggested here, and by CO management, or there's some fact behind it.
