Standby Question

Quick question. I have an early AM flight on 12/28 going down to IAH. Would I be able to change my flight to tonight without paying a fee? From my understanding of the CO Platinum benefits, I can change flights within 24 hours of the original departure?

There are seats left on tonights flight.

Thanks

I have done the 24-hour window change before. It would definitely be worth a call to the elite line and see what your options are. I hope to be doing a similar change later this week out of SLC back to MAF... or possibly LIT... tbd this week. The down side is that if you have an EUA for the original flight, that will not automatically carry over to the new flight, and if there's no up front seats available, hello exit row.

I called up the Elite line, and they informed me that I can only do a confirmed standby if the same fare class is still available. Is this true? If so, then this confirmed standby benefit is extremely diminished since only Y or B fares will generally be available at the day of travel.

The agent also informed me that I can call within 3 hours of my flight and get on the standby list. Does anyone have experience with this?

Thanks

Yes, the agent is correct that the same fare class has to be available to confirm the change. But at T-3.5h CO opens up most buckets if there are seats so folks will clear. You also should be able to have them add you to the standby list now if there aren't seats in your bucket. I do not believe that requires waiting until T-3h.

Check the FAQ for some more details about how the SDC/standby works.

I just called, and the agent said that they can't add me to the standby list since there are only B class tickets left. I'm on a Coach ticket. Is this true? It seems like every customer rep is giving me a different answer whenever I call.

Update: The flight is sold out. Can they still add me to the standby list over the phone?

CO.com agrees with the agents: "Standby may be requested on the day of departure at the airport kiosk or with a Continental airport representative."

So you can be added to the list but not over the phone. Sorry for the somewhat misguided info above.
