Anyone doing a MR or quick trip to Taiwan?
I'm trying to find anyone returning to LAX from Taiwan in the future that would like to escort a Golden Retriever home as their baggage. I'm trying to help the Golden Retriever Rescue of Greater Los Angeles (http://www.grcglarescue.org) rescuing these dogs from Taiwan. There are 2ladies in China that are doing this work, and as funds are raised, the group here pays the expenses to bring them back for adoption. If you go to their web site, there is a link to Project Taiwan. Here is an email I recieved from the President of the rescue group.
For the most part, the volunteer escort has very little to do. The escort provides the rescue with his/her travel itinerary (only the one leg the dog(s) will be traveling on). The rescue then makes a reservation with the airline to book one or more dogs as that escorts baggage. The rescuers meet the escorts at the airport, with the dogs and everything they need to travel (crate, supplies, water, etc). The rescuers accompany the passenger to check-in, where the crated dogs are checked in. Travel documents for the dogs, including their baggage claim tickets, are handed over to the passenger. On the arrival side, the passenger is met by a team of local rescuers, to whom s/he gives the travel documents. The rescues pay for the baggage fees associated with shipping the dogs, and also take care of tipping porters at each end.
If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated!
