SAN-IAD-DME 4/23
DME-IAD-SAN 4/26

No hotel or visa yet. Contemplating HI and Marriott.
Count me in for any FT fun.
I speak some Pa-ruse-ki, but this is my first trip to Russia.

chanp, I like the idea of the hotel support letter link.

Is it possible to do a DME turn-around MR without a visa? (i.e. not going through immagration and gettig right back on a return flight)

EXPflyer1 - I believe you'll still need a transit visa.

Thanks for the quick response. Is a transit visa any easier to get or less expensive? I don't really have the time or $$$ to do anything but a quick turn on this MR, as much as I'd love to see the city.

Here is what absolutely not to do while in Moscow -- don't carry over 1 million in cash with you at the airport because it might get stolen!

"Armed men steal $1 million at Moscow airport"

There's more and more reports of robbery and violence on the streets of Moscow with the economic crisis unfolding in Russia.

If you need any of the hotels ive listed, let me know, ill email them to you. So when you make your resi, you can have it filled out and they should shoot their support letter to you the same day.

Me too - was thinking of doing the same thing early April. Just wait for the plane to turn around.

Surely there is a secure TRANSIT area you can stay in while they clean the plane?

I found this quote on Russianvisa.org in the transit visa section. Not to be taken as gospel, but interesting to note.

"If you are on a direct flight through the territory of Russia or travel by international airline and change flights in the same airport within 24 hours, you do not need a visa."

Maybe someone that is more familiar with Russian visas can verify...

I would recommend checking with the airline because ultimately they will decide if your visa is suitable. Ideally someone who actually deals with those flights would be the best source (eg AA GA in ORD)

Sadly if you call 3 staffers at UA you'll get 3 different answers on this!

Good Morning All. My first post to FT, although I visit the site often and have learned tons! So... please do forgive my misuse of terminology, if it happens.

Myself and a friend are likley going to Moscow on 23 April and returning 27th from IAD. Tickets on hold and we will decide this a.m. Also have decided on Holiday Inn Sokolniki. Will use the "2 for 1" deal and then were wishing to use this "Friends and Family" rate for the 3rd nite. We would save a bit off of the "best available," so thanks for that link. But they want a form turned in to the Hotel with an employee's name to get the rate. Any suggestions on that?

Also, we would be willing to share a taxi, or whatever, from DME on arrival and departure dates to DME/Sokolniki with anyone here. Otherwise we may just trying riding the metro in. Is this too difficult?

Thanks for all the great information you guys provide!

Thanks. I had looked further at the trains and I believe that the Areoexpress and metro would indeed be fairly easy to do... and if not it will be an adventure then! We have confirmed our air/hotel reservations for the weekend of the 24th and would love to hear how your trip went.

Good Hotel Option

I was able to book the Golden Apple hotel for a very good price of $150/night.
This is a small 5 star hotel in the centre of Moscow.
Here is the site if someone is interested.
I am staying there April 10-12
