Of course. I was there! ;) |
Edit for MAJOR oversite: Welcome Jb831! Like I told Rhino this is a purrfect FT event to get to meet some wonderful people and contribute what you know. Plus, youa re from one of my favorite places, YYZ where I used to go see The Red Green Show! ;)
Second Edit to show there will be ONE Soup Do and Dovster and UIG will meet up that week on a night that works for them. SO, it's ONE Soup Do at 8pm Friday, June 12. |

I'm not worrying about La Bonne NOT reopening in time for the Soup DO in June. Will make a separate post on alternates I'm thinking on.
My more immediate concern is making sure everyone who wants to come to SOup DO is accomodated to the best of my ability. For my Honored Guests Would you mind if I move the start time up to 6pm so Dovster and UIG can attend? Now is 8p works better for the group (and if the restaurant can't accomodate a large group for 6p) here's option two (so help me!) THE FIRST back to back FT DO. IT would be: *Soup Do D (for DOvster) starting at 6p *Soup Do C (for Catman) starting at 8pm Some peopel may be able to make the earlier Do and others for the 8p Do. Don't worry... I can eat two meals (and I'll work it all off running around doing Cat sittings in at least two to three cities!) Let me know what you all think. You can PM me or post here. I'll make a Dovster Soup DO thread once there's enough interest. IF not... Dovster would you and the UIG want to dine with me earlier? (You are on my list of FT-ers to meet!) Does this work for everyone? Let me know. |
Meanwhile I will research alternates in case La Bonne does not reopen (the loss of Cite still makes me ill. I went to the other restaurant and it was OK but NOT cite.)
One option will be West Bank Cafe. Here dinner would have to be at 8pm because they draw a large theatre crowd (but we could apply the FIRST FT DOUBLE DO for Dovster and UIG.) (and no worries... the only time there is "fighting" at West Bank is Tony nomination and award time! ;) ) Another French Bistro I've been to and was considering, La Madeline, closed and was evicted from its location. They hope to find a new home. There is another option: Les Halles (The 411 Park Avenue location.) I had lunch here with Jongar last year and several other FT-ers came over for drinks. (It was after BerlinFlyer's birthday celebration at West Bank.) Here is the original thread: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/commu...0th-march.html This is the menu (They offer party menus but I think they are a little pricey for a decent sized event like ours:) http://www.leshalles.net/menus/LHP_Dinner.pdf Looks like I"m going to be doing some more dining in NYC to find the purrfect place for us. Of course if anyone has other suggestions let me know! |
Fire at LBS? Just checking this thread. Scanned 100 messages but didn't seach.. so send the AA guys out with their Ak47s.
What happened, will they be backi? One of my fave NY restaurants, thank you Catman for introducing us. |

As I mentioned, I will be in Manhattan from the 8th until the 12th. I will be happy to join you for dinner on any of those days. |

LA BONNE SOUPE IS CLOSED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE. WE HOPE TO RE-OPEN WITHIN FOUR WEEKS. We wish to thank our patrons for their concern and support and reassure them that no-one was hurt. Oh, and you couldn't have "scanned 100 messages" in this thread -- there are (were) only 49 before your post. :p |

If there are indeed going to be 2 DOs, please put me down for the 8pm one. Looking forward to this weekend -- I get to combine two famous DOs (SoupDO + BRT) in one of my favourite cities. (Although, I am glad to hear you like my hometown of YYZ as well! ^) |
I just realized that La Bonne Soupe is only several blocks from where I went to high school for three years, yet I never patronized the establishment or ate at this restaurant...

www.frenchroastny.com www.villagerestaurant.com www.casanisny.com I have no idea how good they are, but the Chowhounders seem to rate them as OK |
RhinoUK... thanks for the suggestions. They all look good.
What I will probably do is ONE MONTH before the actual SOup Do check wtih La Bonne on them opening on time for June 12. If not, I'll try your suggestions Rhino... I am trying to find the best place cuisine wise at a fair price for everyone (because those going on BRT are going also going on a tasting tour of the Borough so I'm trying to leave some cash for that!) Oh and guest list uupdated (now I'm in the 10K post range!) |
Hey Catman,
Please put me down as probable (and congrats on the 5 digits of posts). Another suggestion I would make in the "French Bisrto" category is Artisanal (it's a cheese and wine lover's paradise). It's also fairly large, so would be easier for a big group. |
I have now made (refundable) hotel bookings at the Fairmount, thanks to the deal they had on. But still unable to confirm 100%, as a few things remain up in the air... Keeping my fingers, ehm, pawns crossed! ;)
