newbie - hello

First post so a bit about me:

I live in London and I'm a civil servant (boo hiss)

I used to travel a great deal but after too many bad economy class flights (screaming kids, drunk parents and cramped seats) I gave it up and focussed my holiday recreation on places not requiring the use of an aircraft to get to.

I haven't got on a plane in over 10 years.

I swore that if I did (and don't get me wrong Britain has much to offer but there are places I would like to go that need an aircraft) I would never ever fly cattle class again.

What am I looking for from the forum?

Provisionally I would like to find out which sub-forum I should be posting on concerning subjects such as flight routes, relative merits of premium economy/business/first within each airline as it's time to confront flying after a long interval.

The impetus for doing so is that I would like to take my lady away for a holiday perhaps in January /February of next year. Somewhere we can relax, get some sun, perhaps play a little golf but above all get there not using economy class.

I've got a few ideas but an frustrated at how difficult it is to get to common haunts for winter sun from here such as The Canary Islands without being jammed up like sardines(and treated not much better)

Perhaps someone could tell me if i'm likely to find useful information on here if I go through the 'back catalogue'?

A cursory look at some of the forum titles suggests I haven't really got a clue about many of the more technical subject areas at issue on here.

Anyway,

hello from London

Welcome, BillyGibbons.
As mentioned on this thread, FT has registered over 189,000 members over the past decade. Here's a little info: Welcome to FT - over 180k members.

KiwiFlyer has a very good old discussion thread in this forum, 'who we all are', which might be a good place for your comments.

Welcome and ditto. Resistance is futile.
