FT Divers in Chicagoland?

I was thinking of doing a FT Diver DO one of these August weekends. Maybe get a few of us out there to a quarry (Haigh Quarry is good) and grab a BBQ there, get some dives in, good steaks, a full day on a weekend in or something.
If anyone would be interested in something like this, post here or PM me and I can start arranging a DO

Could possibly do a weekend up in Chicago in August, depending on what the fares are like (in advance, they're usually around $100 r/t if bought in advance, and that's cheaper than driving/gas).

If you were in for sure, I could pick you up at the airport if times match and you don't get a rental (though to get to a hotel/motel or get around the small town a car would be nice)
Places include http://www.haighquarry.com/Maps/
Depends though cause today the vis at the wreck was crap. the vis though in other shallow parts was 10-15ft and at the hole it was 25ft
3 thermals
surface - 78F
1st at 25ft was -65F
and at 42ft - 55F

I was wearing gloves, hood, 7mm wetsuit. Too much I think (the gloves and hood) if you stay above 42ft.

Weekends that could work include Aug 16/17, Aug 23/24, Aug 30/31
Let me know if any would work for you.

I have to pass on quarry diving. I'd like to get a drysuit and dive some of the wrecks in Lake Michigan, some good ones off of Milwaukee from what I've read.

cold? if you stay above 40ft or so it's quite warm.
What dates would be good for you? (see post above)

I am used to diving in Thailand, 65 is cold for me . I guess the only time I am available is this weekend Aug 9 or 10. Plus I need to find a dog sitter. BTW, I am a PADI MSD.

In Aug, just a wetsuit would be necessary. I too have done most of my diving in Thailand and Philippines, have never been diving in Lake Michigan, perhaps this would be the month to try. But I do not have equipment, would have to rent it. I've got the boat though, if someone can find the wreck.

Matters where you are. You can rent equipment there but its not the best. You can also rent it at any dive shop. Mine in plainfield has nice gear. Tanks I can always bring some down from the dive shop or you can rent em there.
Wreck I've seen a few times. Sadly no boats in the quarry.
But if your free one of these weekends, let me know.

I am in downtown Chicago. I know there is a shop up in Lincoln Park (Underwater Safaris), that is where MissKok got certified. I know I should get my own equipment, but 90% of my diving is while in Asia, and while traveling around islands in Thailand and Philippines. As a rule, I do not check any luggage while doing that, so that prohibits bringing my own equipment anyway.

A friend and I have talked about going diving here in Lake Michigan (the boat is no problem). Now that the water is warm, we should do it. Weekdays are MUCH better for me.
