I just booked flights arriving Tuesday afternoon, returning Saturday night. Will probably stay at the Doubletree, but am still looking at options.

Aloha from Kauai. 6 more weeks! I can't wait to see everyone again... Even the "other folks". Its worth the air fare just to come and see Karen remember 20 different names and screen handles.

Hi all - I've been to 2 do's in the past but always forget to check community buzz before I make my plans. I am in town for a MR to start the year off - the fares were too good to pass up and my first trip to Hawaii (from freezing cold high 14 degrees today Vermont). I already booked for 1/23-26 - I figure I had to see some sights if I am going that far (I guess that turns a MR into a minivacation). While I guess I'll miss out on the festivities I just wanted to let you know I got a room at the Sheraton Princess Kaiulani for 98.10 a night AAA rate - supposedly across from the beach. It also can be had for 7000/n Starpoints or $45 and 2800 Starpoints. I hope this is a good place and rate and perhaps someone else can use this info - I feel like this will be the priciest MR ever but I can't wait:-). Everyone have a great time!

lili Jan 1, 2009 11:28 pm

AA fare dropped, have ticket on hold, so think I will be there Jan 25-30.

Never been before, any suggestions about hotels?

SeeYa Jan 5, 2009 11:43 am

lili, the Sheraton Princess Kaiulani AAA rate is $98.10/night.
This hotel, while innocuous in the large tour group base hotel kind of way, is nicely positioned across the street from the much nicer Moana Surfrider, and a block from the beach.

Here's a nice map of Waikiki and all of the hotel properties.

Please add me to the maybe list. I need to get away from the 'cold'. Brrrrr.

Traveller Jan 5, 2009 3:46 pm

I have to drop out of this do. :( :( :( I so wish I could make it, it only it was a month later....

bk3day Jan 7, 2009 8:01 am

Bunping in hopes that there's new details

I'm still on the fence but very much listing towards the the side of joining y'all.

I think having a better idea of what's happening when will help me seal the deal :D

any news?

karenkay Jan 7, 2009 1:37 pm

okey dokey, i've added lili, BondAir007 and bk3day to the maybe list--welcome, the more the merrier--and removed Traveller from the list as well. we'll miss you!

i'm thinking we'll meet at hula grill for dinner on tuesday the 27th. i can make us a reservation, and i'd be inclined to go for sunset, which means we'd be eating early-ish, say 5.30 or 5.45. does that work for everyone? i'm going to need to book a reservation in a week or so...

my plans were that we'd do our own thing on tuesday day and wednesday day, but we had talked upthread about seeing either the arizona or pearl harbor together. i'm happy to do either or neither. if you guys want, we can do what i've seen work well with other do's, which is break into small groups during the day so everyone can do what they feel most drawn to. obviously if anyone wants to 'drive' any particular outing, feel free.

as this is hawaii we're talking about, the do is going to be very loosely structured! we'll for sure have dinner tuesday night.

i may succumb to island malaise and simply spend the day sitting on the beach with a mai tai.

i'm staying at the princess kaiulani as well, and while it's far from a fabulous hotel, it's perfectly fine. lili and steves, you may want to read the thread in the spg forum about the princess kaiulani. it's absolutely the best at the price, imho, especially if you're using cash + points.

i stayed there for the last do, and found the hotel perfectly fine.

thanks, FlyinHawaiian, for the assist!

thanks for mentioning this...i actually changed my reservation from cash + points ($45 + 2800 points per night) to that rate...might as well get a stay credit while i'm at it, and save the points for an upgrade somewhere fabulous. ^

Thanks for the info - I am looking forward to my first island visit and feel better that someone else has stayed at the Sheraton. If anyone is going to be around 23-26 let me know if you want to get together for a drink or whatever....

I'm scheduled to arrive at 4:37pm on Tuesday, the 27th, so it might be a challenge to make 5:30pm for dinner. I know I won't be up for a late night with the time change, though, so I'd be ok with joining the group mid-dinner if that time works for everyone else.

I've stayed at the Princess Kaiulani before and would rather be somewhere new this time, but I'm still scouting. The rate is tempting.

Karen
