I will be passing through Anchorage on the afternoon of July 10th. After a hopefully short meeting with the folks at U.S. Customs and Border Protection over in the North Terminal, I should be available for questions and autographs and cocktails in the Boardroom. Okay, well... maybe just cocktails :D

After spending quite some time explaining a website called Flyertalk, I got my GE entry in SEA. Very uneventful. Hopefully yours was the same.

Might get a lot more members up to ANC over the next three months!

Should mention that I'll be in ANC 8/18, then FAI 8/20. I'm always up for a meeting of any like minds. In between, I'll be riding the rails on Alaska RR on the 19th!

I booked myself so i have a full day 10/27. If it weren't so late in the year I'd take advantage of my remaining ANC-BRW segment from my ADQ do stop-over award.

Am thinking of making my first journey North To Alaska from about 8/28-9/4, with time in ANC, then...? Looking at staying at Sheraton on points for the ANC part. Drive down Kenai? Train to Denali? Flight to ADQ? Just started thinking about it, so no plans set. Assuming I pull the trigger.

What to do

I'm gonna be there last weekend in Sept...for just 24 hours. Basically will have all day Sunday and i have a rental car. I realize there are tons of things to do, but just wondering what should be the one or two things I could do in one day while in the ANC area? Obviously, weather and other things play a part in what is available. I appreciate your help.

One of my MRs has me land at 4 pm and take off at midnight

should I plan on just staying in the airport .... or is there something worth doing for about 6 hours?

More than enough time to catch a taxi and get some dinner downtown and do some walking around.

I'm tied up 8/18 & fly out on 8/20 so I will miss you. The train ride is 12 hours, so relax & take lots of pictures.

With that much time you could do all 3 and the crowds should be slightly less by then.

Well aware. I've wanted to take this train ride for a long time :D. Paid for first class (GoldStar service), unlike airlines, on a train the upgraded class is usually both reasonably priced and well worth it.

I'm actually flying through ANC on 8/20, I have AS FAI-ANC, then AA ANC-DFW, so if you're there around dinner time before the AA flight I'll be at the airport.

Managed to get a ticket yesterday, will be flying to ANC on 9/14 then back 9/16, 48 hours to spend there.

It is my first MR & first trip to AK, pretty excited about it. I am thinking to take a day cruise/tour to see the glacier, and would love to hear other recommendation for activities. Also can someone recommend an area in town that is both convenient and safe to stay for single female traveler? Thanks.

golfingboy Aug 7, 2013 11:10 am

Just booked my first MR ticket in quite a long time... I will be flying on an airline that starts with an "U" who has a CEO that likes to talk.

I will only be in ANC for 1.5 hours from 11pm to 1230am on Oct 12. If anybody is doing one of the 100000 red-eyes out of ANC that evening, we could meet up at the airport or in the AS BR!
