Hard to say. Might be a bit brisk or rainy... the s word shouldn't emerge yet...

Are you referring to the 7 letter or 4 letter word? They already had s (4 letter) in Colorado. Go to Seattle for the 7 letter version.

Showers are fine. It really doesn't even shower in Southcentral--the rain there is more like a falling mist than anything that actually gets you wet. No one I know in Anchorage ever uses an umbrella (I lived there for 17 years and didn't even ever own one).

In Southeast, it actually does rain (real rain), but they don't use umbrellas there as a mark of pride (kind of like how Fairbanksans will go out in shorts at -40, just to prove to outsiders that they're tough).

Nice point on the umbrellas in anchorage, Never thought of it as a pride thing but now that I think about it I can see it.

Hello FTers

3 years ago, I had a marvelous whirlwind daytrip to Anchorage. Tomorrow I'll return to the land of wandering elk/moose. I'm landing at 230pm and departing at 1am. Would anyone like to get together for a drink/coffee/tour/dinner? I'll have a rental car.

Arrive from DEN around 3 pm and on 1159 pm out on same day. Anyone up for a drink?
Also, what would people suggest do I do? I have a rental car

I'll be in ANC from shortly after midnight 3 Jan to shortly after midnight 5 JAN. Travelling with my 10yo. I'll be on crutches, so no hiking, any advice, ideas, meetups?

You picked a cold time to come! Of course, given the weather so far this year, it may not be so cold...

Unfortunately, you'll have just missed the grand annual gathering of ANC-based FTers for New Year's Eve (complete with a display of fireworks that usually manages not to set anything on fire). I won't be around (though that could always change...), but if any of the remaining ANC folks are in town, still alive, and sober, you might have some luck meeting up. :)

I'm really good at getting to a city one or two days after a big Do. This must be my third or fourth in a year! But, of course, it had to be after the first of the year, next year's qualification and all...

Weather is predicted to be above zero F on the only website I could find that didn't give me annual averages but a real forecast. Not that anything between 0-32 F will mean much to me, it's all just really, really cold.

So my preference is to meet indoors, if anyone is around!

Is that zero to negative 32?!

0 is pretty chilly. That's use-your-remote-starter-and-warm-the-car-up weather, but it's still possible to stand outside in reasonable comfort as long as you have a good coat on and the wind's not blowing.

32, though--that's shorts weather! Sip a piņa colada out on your back deck in this weather.

-32, on the other hand--well, that's cold enough that your ears sting if they're not covered up, and your hands go numb if you don't have gloves on. A pair of long underwear is helpful, too.

Anything above -20 is shorts weather.
