how did I miss this thread? Fares look good. Open weekend on my schedule. Need to visit family. Check!

Woo hoo!

I've been taking friends and family to Oklahoma Joe's on every subsequent trip to KC or MO... Including when I was passing through on my way to Columbia MO.

Its not too bad. There is a little bit but it's not excessive.

We're definitely in! Booked flights today...we get in around 5 pm. :D

Looking forward to seeing everyone on Friday night.

Do you recommend everyone stay around the Country Club Plaza area again?

I have Final Exams April 30th - May 3rd that cannot be rearranged. :(

Hopefully next year...

Yep...the Plaza is a good central area to all activities.

Actually, I never thought I'd say this, but whenever we have people in on business trips to KC, I'm now recommending downtown over the Plaza.

Dead serious. Kansas City's downtown is jumpin'. Having lived here my whole life - most of which included a completely blah downtown - I still pinch myself when I walk around down there. I was down there on Opening Day (Royals) and on Final Four weekend, sitting in an outdoor courtyard drinking martinis by a fire pit which we watched the Hawks on a 25-foot screen. It's a different place now...

For my money, I'd pick the Hilton President. My favorite new bar is Raglan Road, with JP's in the Crossroads being a close 2nd.

Great point Pinniped. I live here and I still havent made it down to the Power and Light District by the arena yet. I think we may need to make that happen at some point in the DO weekend.

EDIT: I just found out that I may have an obligation on Saturday late afternoon and evening. I will get the BBQ party started on Sat. but I may have to leave a little early.

Bump - Can't wait to eat all that BBQ!

I am truly looking forward to meeting everyone on Friday night. I will be at the City Tavern patio at about 4;30-5pm. It should be a great weekend.

What time are you going to Fiorella's? My flight arrives at 4:15pm and I'll probably want to check into my hotel first to dump off my stuff.

flygirl555 Apr 28, 2008 9:02 am

Only four more days! :D

You may find me in the bar instead of on the patio depending on the weather ... it's been a chilly Spring here in KC ... although I just now looked and the forecast has improved a bit for Friday ...

Folks I will have to bail out. I have been scheduled to work on Saturday, I will try to find a replacement person, but is highly unlikely that anyone will want to give up their weekend for me. I will catch you guys a next time.

Fiorella's won't be until later in the evening, probably 8 or 9. I find that a few drinks before hand makes the BBQ taste even better!
