where do I put packing questions?

Hi all, ok, when I've flown previously, I've always packed my video camera in my checked baggage, especially as it's heavy to lug (I'm travelling with a 3 yr old as well) and every security checkpoint you have to prove it's not anything more sinister.

Has anyone ever had their camera damaged?? I'm bad for always having too much in my carryon so want to have less in it, am I crazy to pack it in my checked bags? We are flying Qantas to LAX via Qantas, I'll have all my bags locked with the TSA locks.

Any input would be appreciated.Thanks

First of all, welcome to Flyertalk, liska67! ^

I would say that this question is the most appropriate for either the TravelBuzz! forum or the airline forum directly.

In general, I would be weary about packing expensive electonics in your checked luggage. If you snug it inbetween clothes I guess it would work, but you never know.

I've yet to have a camera damaged when going checked baggage..What I try to do is pack it right in the middle of the checked baggage, surrounded by soft stuff like socks/undershirts etc. I honestly don't want to deal with it when I'm trying to load carry-on baggage.
