As this date is just one week after the ZRH Do, I will probably still be recovering from the hangover and am unlikely to attend. But never say never...

I've never been to Korea but understand that a lot of soju is consumed, if this helps ;)

from prelim research, it looks like more than a few companies provide tours of the DMZ, one that gets high marks is the USO tour only held on Saturdays:
http://www.uso.org/Korea/default.cfm?contentid=347
Their site did not list times, cost or exact itinerary, guess I'll have to email them

This is the one that I've been "leaning" toward as well, since at least a portion of the tour includes the official "line" between N and S, and I understand that its possible to have military personnel on the tour - which could be interesting in and of itself.

My understanding is that the cost is "near" 75,000 Won, not much different than others.
Advance resv are, of course, going to be required.

Best, Dave

Guys,

For your convenience, I've amended the title of the thread to reflect the dates given in the OP - hope that helps! Have a great time in Seoul :)

I am interested but booked for the Yodeleledoo which may be a bit too big a Do for me.... so if this Korea Do gets any real legs, I might just bite the bullet and see how much more DL will charge me to switch air res to join you.....

Bump and sell?

Condition One Apr 9, 2007 4:11 pm

Maybe...

I'm going to keep an eye on this. I'll be attending Cow Do III a few weeks prior. And I may be changing jobs, so things are up in the air at the moment.

DH Apr 9, 2007 4:19 pm

For me, it's going to be depending on when my biz trip (Korea) schedule finalizes. :(

AusTXHiker Apr 9, 2007 5:43 pm

I am definitely interested in attending this! Let me see what I can find with regards to frequent flyer booking and I'll report back.

vprp Apr 9, 2007 8:27 pm

Well, you can count me in for the late dinner. I'm already here in Seoul and according to my travel plans, it looks like I'll still be here then.

mahasamatman Apr 9, 2007 8:39 pm

I responded in the other Korea DO thread, but in order to consolidate things...

It's a definite possibility. It will depend on how tight things are at work. The nice thing is that +1 has a client in Seoul, so she can visit her client and we can write it off as a business trip.

dedehans Apr 9, 2007 8:46 pm

OK , please put me in as a tentatve.....might be arriving 28th and leaving 01 and clueless where to stay...travelling solo to a new city and woud prefer to hook up with ICN Do central hotel before I make other Do plan changes...

Also, getting from ICN into chosen hotels....taxis, buses, tuktuks????

If there is real interest in doing this do I would appreciate the commitment asap....I cannot do Yododoee and Korea Doo that close together and would opt for the Korea Doo if I see a good plan.....SweetWilly, CaWhite, Ws8n, Tom911 and all of you already working on this list, what do you thinlK???
Keep in touch.

Rats! That's what I get for sticking with US. No SQ availability from US except in Y. I am defecting starting next week so I will be a General member on UA :(

Anyway, I did manage to book some seats (27 SEP-01 OCT 2007) through US (mix of UA, NH, and OZ) but apparently, I need to wait 24 hours to confirm if the seats are really there. After that, US will issue a paper ticket. I think it is safe to say (crossing fingers and toes) that I could be listed as a "tentative" for this event. Should I book the Westin Chosun, Sheraton Grande, or W? They are all pricing in the same range anyway.

kluau88 Apr 15, 2007 12:40 pm

Put me down as interested.

AusTXHiker was going through previous threads and it seems like the Westin location is preferred over the W and Sheraton at Walker Hill. As for prices, the Sheraton seems to be at least 25% cheaper than the W or Westin.

KAL limousine bus is way to go. It's cost 13,000 won (~$14 US) each way; you get nice (domestic F style) seats and help with your luggages.

Both Sheraton and W are located at eastern edge of the city and won't be easy to get to/from using subway...

OOH, sounds good....
Keeping my options open here.....will think it over the next week while at the TLS Do....

AusTXHiker Apr 16, 2007 8:14 pm

Confirmed

I just got off the phone with US. They have put me on the queue for ticketing. They told me the tickets should be printed (yes, it will be paper) tomorrow. Once I have a ticket no., I can call UA, NH, and OZ to select seats.

So, I guess I am confirmed now. I will book my hotel room tomorrow. Time for me to go to bed!

Just a note: make sure the driver sees you put your money into the machine. On our last trip to Seoul, the driver wasn't watching and tried to make me pay a second time. Luckily, another passenger vouched for me.

This is the weekend after ZRH, which I'm going to. Unfortunately I can't do both in such a short time interval. Sorry I am out.

That's too bad. It would have been good to see you again. Oh well, you never know. I might just slip into ZRH the weekend before (but not officially part of the FT festivities).

TEX277 Apr 17, 2007 1:04 pm

Thanks for the PM Sweet Willie and apologies for such a delayed response.

I very much doubt that I shall be able to make the Do. However, I shall keep it in mind and if plans change and it becomes possible, then I'll let you know.

Is this new? Was it on KAL limousine bus? The KAL limousine bus driver will tear your ticket and will give you the receipt portion. There are other airport buses besides KAL limousine buses but KAL buses only serves hotels.

Saturday Sept 29: USO DMZ Tour http://www.uso.org/Korea/default.cfm?contentid=347

I've been in email communication with the USO based in Korea. The are not taking September reservations until June of this year. FYI,

If anyone is interested in the USO tour, please let me know either here or via PM. I'll keep a list and when June hits, I'll reconfirm with those interested and supply all the details on who I've been in contact with so those interested can book their own DMZ reservations.

We may be a possibility

Hi--Mr Flyertalker and I are thinking about either going to Seoul or another Asia venue during that time period so we are a maybe. If we attended, wee would be staying at a Hilton, possibly the Millenium Hilton. Is that too far from the action? I see most of you are staying at the Westin. If we went we would definitely be interested in the DMZ tours.

Thanks--Mary Anne.

While most are staying at the Westin Chosun, I am actually staying Saturday night at the Millenium Hilton as well to maximize stays at both *W and Hilton.

The Millenium Hilton is just south of the Westin Chosun, but still north of the river.

When the DMZ tours are available for booking, I'll FYI you.

If you take a taxi, the fare should be a few US $. It's a subway station ride from each other on line 1.

Looks like the Korea biz trip may be postponed till next year but stay tuned... :(

If I don't have any luggage really, are the Westin and Hilton Millenium within walking distance (20-30 minute walk) of each other ?

brahms77 Apr 27, 2007 8:15 pm

Sweet Willie! It's so nice to see the new Korea DO being planned! I am so sorry I couldn't organize the event as past couple of months have been really crazy for me... lots of traveling. Anyway, I am back in the US, but will be starting a job in BKK in September that would have me travel back and forth the US and BKK every month. I am, indeed, planning a trip back home to Korea sometime during my September visit to BKK for work so please count me in as interested. I will do my best to coordinate my schedule according to this.

If you need any help organizing, please do not hesitate to let me know! :)

By the way, I am moving to ORD area next week. Perhaps if you want to get together sometime, let me know.

I would consider the Hilton Millenium and Westin Chosun within walking distance of each other. It's not particularly close but I think 30 minutes would be a realistic time frame if you knew where you were going.
