I recommend Intercontinental Hotel right next to COEX. It will give you greater access to city area with easy access to subway line no.2 .

I started a thread on Food in Seoul here: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=683329

In this thread FT’er mosburger states:
Concerning Korean sashimi in Seoul, one could do worse than head for the giant Noryangin fish market. Basically you choose your fish and seafood at the market booths and then have one of the upstairs restaurants (24h) "cook" it.

The giant Noryangjin Fish Market is detailed on Fatman Seoul: http://fatman-seoul.blogspot.com/200...sh-market.html

I think this looks like a good spot for a dinner, thoughts ?

My thought is that once we finish going to HALF of the places listed in the Seoul "food thread" we'll not fit in our C-class seats on the way back! That makes me hungry just reading it!!!

Best, Dave

Do you have a list of definites and maybes yet? If so, I'm still on the maybe list, and might bring a friend. I'll know by the end of next month hopefully.

There is now, see post #1

Hope you and a friend can make it.

Mmmmmm... Seoul food...

Unfortunately, it looks like you'll need to pull us from the list of maybes. That SFO-AKL fare was too good to pass up, and I'll be out of vacation days because of it.

Have fun!

kluau88 May 17, 2007 8:18 pm

I'm out for this too :( Had a voucher to use and decided to go to Switzerland. Guess I'll have to save ICN for a later date.

Anyhow I'm confirmed in C/F to ZRH in typical FT fashion.

SFO-LAX-IAD-ZRH-IAD-LAX-SFO :)

Yes I could have gone SFO-IAD, but there's a 3-cabin 777 LAX-IAD-LAX with confirmed NC space. SFO-IAD is littered with A319/20 and those are :td:

She had better soon, or someone won't even be permitted to go to Barnaby's! ;)

Just say when - didn't even get to my favorite pizza place on Kauai. Now sitting in the Qantas Club in HNL, getting ready to go home. :(

Methinks that you could be right! :D OTOH: If the 'planned' surgery doesn't happen on time - it might not make a difference. :(
Barnaby's sounds good in any event!!

You can add me to the "maybe" column. We're on the verge of investing in a company in Seoul that is doing groundbreaking work in the "artificial breast" field. If it materializes, I'll get to go there on a monthly basis and would probably be able to work in the dates in question. My next trip is set for Monday 5/28; pm me if you'll be around then.

Condition One May 26, 2007 12:08 pm

Move me to the confirmed list! I'll be staying at the Millennium Hilton. I'll know if my friend is coming by the end of next week. Either way, please keep me updated on the DMZ tour. I'm really looking forward to it!

excellent, will your other party be joining you as well ?

As stated earlier in this thread, I will get in touch with the person for the USO tour of the DMZ shortly, hopefully they will be willing to make a Sept reservation now as they were unwilling to do so earlier in the year and if so, I'll PM everyone who has expressed an interest.

I've PM'd the confirmed folks info on booking the USO DMZ tour.

If anyone else wants the info, please contact me.

Condition One Jun 14, 2007 2:58 pm

I got the PM and am now confirmed for Saturday, September 29th. I'm waiting to hear back on how I can pay the $44 fee, though. They want it at least 4 days prior to the tour.

work2fly Jun 14, 2007 7:39 pm

Interesting...

I arrive into SIN late night Sept 26th. I was planning to leave the next day for The Philippines for a month...but, perhaps a few days in Seoul would be a lot of fun.

I assume this will be a culinary adventure?

Please put me down as a maybe while I try to find award tickets and either a budget hotel or an award stay.

Very Good, I'll do that.

as far as a culinary adventure this is a quote from an earlier post in the thread:

I am confirmed as well.

During my last round of emails with the folks for the USO DMZ tour, a credit card could be used if desired. This would probably be easiest rather than someone paying for all those attending then trying to collect as unfortunately there have been occasions where some FT'ers have not paid for their bill/share.

work2fly Jun 17, 2007 6:45 pm

I managed to find some decent and affordable accommodation near ICN however I was disappointed to learn that *A award tix from SIN to ICN go for 40/60/80K.

Too bad UA MP won't let me convert 2 SWUs into 60K miles for a business class award ticket.

I'll keep trying to work something out...I'd hate to miss eating live octopus with lots of good soju and beer.

I suggest you go to the Coupon Connection forum and attempt to trade for DL miles, which cost 25k in Y or 30k in J nonstop on KE.

work2fly Jun 21, 2007 9:40 pm

Please move me to the confirmed list.

I arrive Thursday afternoon and will be around through Monday morning.

Noryangin fish market will definitely be on my agenda.

I found what appears to be a clean, basic hotel close to Insa-dong for $40/night if anyone's interested.

excellent, I'll put you on the confirmed list. I've also PM'd you the info on attending the DMZ tour.

If you could post your hotel info on this thread so that others may take advantage. I am thinking of booking for Sat night to get a better cost per night avg for hotels.

Yim's looks very close to the Westin Chosun were I know some FT'ers intend on staying. I just may book a Sat night at Yim's.

Would you add me as an interested/maybe? With the AC sale from SMF I'm looking into this.... Been 10+ years since I've been over there, and am in need of a new tailor-made suit. The last time I was there, I flew into SEL/Kimpo; it was very convenient to just hop on the subway right there (knowing the language didn't hurt either).

Thanks!

I have a +1 to announce. A family friend's 17 year-old son will be tagging along with me. His parents want him exposed to more cultures. This will be his first time in Asia so don't scare him off with the live octopus! At least not until the second night :D I'm working on getting him added to the DMZ Tour.

+1 it is.

what a neat experience for a 17 yr old.^ I'm thinking grilled meat (bul go ki) would be an ok meal for Korean food introduction. perhaps vprp knows of some local spots near the Westin. If not, I'm sure there are some nearby or a quick subway ride away.

brahms77 Jul 10, 2007 11:29 pm

Hi guys, unfortunately, I cannot make it to Korea at that time. I will be in BKK for work. I will, however, be in Korea from August 27th to September 8th so if there are any FTers around, I'd be happy to hangout! :) At the same time, if you are coming to BKK between September 8th to October 16th, let me know. I am staying at Conrad during the week and Intercontinental during the weekend.

The timing of your post is just too perfect. Mrs Sweet Willie is now fully aware of the ICN trip as well. Last night over dinner. As suspected she is totally fine with it, especially as we were planning for a long weekend on Cape Cod this fall.:);)

My Mrs is the best^:p

To all who are planning on attending the DMZ tour and for all those who think they might want to attend.

I just confirmed my reservation for the DMZ tour using my CC via email to them. I had originally thought that once I paid the $44 that is was non-refundable. The reply I got today from the DMZ folks stated the opposite, that I only need give them 2 business days notice to cancel to get a full refund.

So if you are holding off in the event you might not go, you might consider booking the tour just in case seeing as you can cancel w/o penalty.
