LAX Welcomes A380 FT DO
The ball started rolling in this thread - http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=665583.
We don't yet have times/other details, but might as well start a list of those attending. Seems the possibilities are Proud Bird, Encounters, T4, .... Who is in? |
Do we have an ETA?

If we can't swing the goose ;) the proud bird might do the trick!!!
but I'll keep my fingers crossed for the goose |
Deleted!
Wouldn't it be easier to do IN-N-OUT? Okay, granted it would be for me.:D |
The LA times reported it would arrive around 9am. Sorry I can't find the link at the moment.
|
For those who don't want to have to click on and read an entire separate thread (like me) to find out what's going on, the A380 is supposed to arrive at LAX on 3/19 approx 9am & do a bunch of taxiing, docking, etc. The consensus on the other thread is that either Encounter or (fully refundable ticket to get you into) T4 would give you the best vantage for seeing it.
Given the side it's going to be on, sounds like In-N-Out (if you're doing offsite) would be better than Proud Bird. Also, is Proud Bird even open at 9am? I'll keep an eye on the thread to see where everyone decides to go. Cheers. |
What an awesome combo - A380 and In-N-Out!!! Can't get much better than that! ^ :p

"ETA" means Estimated Time of Arrival. That is what I would like to know. Anyone have an idea what time the Estimated time of arrival is?

If the A-380 is going to be doing a lot of airport movements, taxing etc.. Would not the best viewing be on the west side of the airport... By the A taxiways where runway 25R/L are? If so, their is Cutter park in El Segundo, right next to the airport on top of a hill that gives spectacular views of departing and taxing aircraft.
The location of Cutter park is Cutter's Park, East Imperial Ave/Sheldon St in El Segundo, I even did a mapquest link. I think it will be very busy over there on that day, every airline netter will be there trying to get pictures. That is why I would be keen to park in my usual lot by in-n-out and find someone brave enough to drive over there. By car pooling us. :D I think this option is best as you'll not need to worry about traffic at the airport, nor holding up funds on a credit card. The only other thing that I could think of would be if someone had a radio scanner. This would allow us to hear communications between the pilots and the tower. I see many air netters with them when I visit this spot to watch airport movements. On a side note, I have never been in T4, is the TSA any good there, meaning if I have my boarding pass for a UA flight that day, will be doing a MR, do you think I can get through security? I know their is a walkway that you can take to go from T6 to T5 is it the same with T4? Funny I should be asking this question, but I am never on that side of the airport. Even when driving through the airport I bypass that side for T6/7. |
Wirelessly posted (HTC-8100/1.2 Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows CE; PPC; 240x320))
wingless and I land at LAX that morning. so depending on location we could make it. |

As mentioned in the other thread, I'm divided between this and the Airliners.net meet in Imperial Hill. Meh, have a couple weeks to decide.
|
I'm potentially in.
What would be really neat (if you're doing the full-fare route) is to buy and Eagle ticket and take the tram back and forth, since it passes by the A380 gates at TBIT. |
UA inbound/outbound to see A380 at LAX.
I understand the A380 will be into LAX on 3/19 and outbound 3/20. I am inbound from LAS to LAX on 3/20. The plane is supposed to sit at gate 101 Intl terminal. Inbound from LAS should I be in seat- ___ ? I thought this might be of interest to others. Will there be any place to view the plane on the ground? Maybe basic information about flight paths will be of interest.
|
It's impossible to say which runway you'll come in on, and how soon you'll turn onto a taxiway. You may not pass the international terminal at all if you're in a small aircraft (like an A319) that doesn't need as much runway to land on.
If it were me, though, I'd sit on the left, "A" side of the plane. If you come in on one of the north runways, the left side will face the Tom Bradley International Terminal as the plane taxis to the UA concourses. If you come in on the south runways, as the aircraft turns, the A side should get a bit of a view of the TBIT. And if you land on the south runways from the west (over the ocean), you'll get a view of TBIT. Good luck! |
Yeah, "A" side sounds good. Also, LAX is one of the few airports where you can really see the "whole" airport provided you're at the right vantage point. It might be worth a drink at the Encounter to check out that ugly, huge POS Scarebus. ;)
|
Maybe worth a LAX-do? I'd be around.

Dang it, I'm going to be on holiday in Germany that week. Maybe I should plan a MR back to the states? I agree Lori_Q about sitting in an A seat. ^ |
Will be around LAX that day, so I am in.
|
When does it arrive?
Sounds like a good time for In-N-Out!! |

Actually a re-check shows that I am outbound LAX to LAS on 3/19. This being the case I should pick seat 11F. Is that correct? Thanks.

Here's the Community thread for those who plan to get together to see the A380 at LAX.
|
Does anyone know which runway it's going to land on?
25R or 24R ? |

Since this is of greater interest to just UA flyers and a Do can possibly be arranged around it, I am going to merge this thread and have subsequent comments posted there. Thanks for your understanding. iluv2fly Modeartor, UA |

Likely 25L or 25R, since they are longest. I think one of them is under construction right now, but I don't remember which.

Well as soon as we have an indication of ETA on 3/19 we can start documenting the roll call of attendees and maybes.
|
And of course, do not forget that sometimes planes land from the West. ;)
|
I think my car is going to break down on the upper deck of the 105 above Imperial, that morning.
|
Interesting article in Global Traveller
online e-mail. It said SFO will have six gates by year-end for the A380 and QF was looking at moving some capacity out of LAX into this market. It would be nice to see that plane also at SFO.
|
For good housekeeping, I'll merge this with a related thread on a possible do around the A380 coming to LAX. Ocn Vw 1K, CoMod., CommBuzz.
|
Since I'll be there to photograph the beast on arrival, I'm game for a meet anywhere, as long as it takes place after all the activity ceases for the plane. I expect to be rushing back-and-forth prior to her arrival trying to determine if she will land at the north or south runways. Then I'm going up to the hill by Imperial, squeezing in for a few shots of taxi and dock on south field. After all that, I'll definitely be ready for a few drinks!
