Likely 25L or 25R, since they are longest. I think one of them is under construction right now, but I don't remember which.

Here's the Community thread for those who plan to get together to see the A380 at LAX.

Thanks, SanDiego1K. i was just going to do that myself.

Since this is of greater interest to just UA flyers and a Do can possibly be arranged around it, I am going to merge this thread and have subsequent comments posted there. Thanks for your understanding.

25L is under construction. 25R is longer, but narrower.

All the more reason for them to test the taxiways around 25R. I believe that they will focus on that side of the airport, plus take off and landing will be on 25R. Just my humble opinion.

Well as soon as we have an indication of ETA on 3/19 we can start documenting the roll call of attendees and maybes.

And of course, do not forget that sometimes planes land from the West. ;)

I think my car is going to break down on the upper deck of the 105 above Imperial, that morning.

Interesting article in Global Traveller

online e-mail. It said SFO will have six gates by year-end for the A380 and QF was looking at moving some capacity out of LAX into this market. It would be nice to see that plane also at SFO.

For good housekeeping, I'll merge this with a related thread on a possible do around the A380 coming to LAX. Ocn Vw 1K, CoMod., CommBuzz.

Since I'll be there to photograph the beast on arrival, I'm game for a meet anywhere, as long as it takes place after all the activity ceases for the plane. I expect to be rushing back-and-forth prior to her arrival trying to determine if she will land at the north or south runways. Then I'm going up to the hill by Imperial, squeezing in for a few shots of taxi and dock on south field. After all that, I'll definitely be ready for a few drinks!

I was actually thinking of doing something similar... if we could get a scanner... ;) I need to see if I can get that morning freed up for some fun at LAX though.

Maybe we should plan to set up shop at Imperial up on the hill, up the slope from the .... dog park.

That's what I have been trying to say for the longest time!:p

Bad News?

I'm not sure whether this DO will involve the Encounter, but if that's the plan, y'all may want to check out the "LA Times" article I mentioned in this thread over in the Los Angeles sub-forum. It doesn't look as though the Encounter lounge is going to be available for this DO. Sorry! :(

I pack a scanner in my camera bag. It already has all the frequencies programmed from clearance delivery all the way to socal approach for LAX.

You'll have to show up pretty early, that area is expected to be packed. It will be full of TV, and with TV you'll get people who know nothing about airplanes but just want to get on camera. And then there are the airplane nuts like us...
