Ever sat next to fellow mileage runner?

Found myself potentially short of arounf 6.5K miles to hit 1k this year so cashed in 2 SWs & booked myself in biz LAX <> LHR Dec 3 returning the 5th. During dinner my seatmate asked if I was flying for pleasure or business and after considering fabricating an important business trip, sheepishly explained I was on a mileage run. I fully expected a look of utter confusion but it turned out he was doing a mileage run to Germany himself to hit 1k. We ended up having an interesting conversation about international travel.

On my return flight the next day I recognized several passengers in biz from the outbound flight. In this case we all eyed each other sheepishly!

The only guy that was initailly confused by my travel pattern was the customs inspector at LAX who upon seeing me leave with only my computer bag wanted to know how long I had been in London for and what the purpose was. When I mentioned mileage run, he smiled and asked If I had got my 20,000 miles. Feeling like a loser I explained I had only made 11,000.

Real men don't settle for the EQM double mile promotion.

Haha, I guess someone filled him in on the promo. I never sat next to a someone doing a MR, or at least one who talked about it, but I did meet with FTers at airports in between runs.

On my way to the London DO, the guy in the row in front of me turned and asked if I was in my assigned seat or just trying to snag an empty row for the overnight flight. I explained that the aisle seat was mine but I was middle-seating it to discourage anyone from trying to stake a claim on an almost empty row. After chatting for a bit, found out he is a new member here and was on a mileage run to MUC as the final trip to complete a plat challenge.

He moved to the middle seat of his row and we both managed to keep our rows to ouselves for the flight

Returning from an MR to FRA (was supposed to be a weekend trip, but flight cancellations condensed it into an MR), was standing in line at the ORD A/C a couple of pax away from GregL, doing an MR to TPA. Then, went to the FL & sat next to Francophile, just returning from a London MR.
