(Making up for not having welcomed you earlier.) Philosophical question: why is it that so many of the welcomes go along with either (a) "but this is posted in the wrong place" or (b) "this has been answered 741,297 times, do a search?" I think I know the answer... |

This thread got me interested in what my first post actually was. So I did a quick FT search for it. ;)
Here it is: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showt...256#post454256 No welcome in the post. But thanks for the welcome above, chrissxb! Here's how to find your own first post: (1) Use the advance search feature: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/search.php (2) Type in your "User Name" under "User Name:" (3) Under "Find Posts from", select "A Year Ago" and "Older" (4) "Sort Results by" "in Ascending Order" If the search feature works, your first post should be the first one brought up. :) |

Well I'm in the crowd that did not receive a welcome either.
And my first post was in "Community" |

Looks like your link got merged, though. Here's the new link: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=195673 |
Is it politically correct to welcome members back after they've been banned? ;)
|
I think everytime you can go onto FT and can LOG ON and you are not suspended or banned that's a welcome (an unpronounced and posted one but an understood one.)
So, a MEOWY WELCOME to everyone... veterans and newbees to another day in the land of Flyertalk. (that should cover anyone.) Plus, if you go on the main page it says "Welcome to the world's most popular frequent Flyer community." I didn't get a welcome but there were like 20 members when I first joined. It's no big deal to me. I feel welcome everytime I go to Flyertalk. Have a MEOWY Thanksgiving (for those in the U.S. and those traveling around the world celebrating the day with Guinness and other good stuff ;) ) |

Does that count? But I'll take Catman's welcome as a welcome from everyone who did not welcome me whether you wanted to welcome me or not :D |
At the rate at which FT membership is growing, welcoming new members could be a good way to quickly pad one's post count! ;)
How about some new titles -- in addition to "FlyerTalk Evangelist," we should add: "FlyerTalk OMNI Evangelist" "FlyerTalk Banker Evangelist" "FlyerTalk Welcome the Newbies Evangelist" ....Any suggestions for others? :D |
I got no welcome either :(
|
Some of us "olds" as the more Aussie among us would call us and who were at war in Vietnam had such a difficult time on our return to "the world" we have a custom of extending a "welcome home" to others who were in the same pickle (or are now.) It has been 41 years for me, and every time I welcome another vet home, or am welcomed, it still is moving. It's a tradition I like...
So, I will postulate it is never too late, and never wrong, to extend a "welcome" to another FTer. It is particularly useful IMO when we welcome a new member, even if they are just newly arrived from lurkerspace (or perhaps longtime members of other fora coming to a forum I frequent.) If the new members like the community and feel it's welcoming, where we can opine and share even marked differences of opinion with respect for others, they will learn (and some of them are already pretty kowldegeable!) and soon share valuable information and insights, and welcome others. It's not like I have a limited number of "welcomes" to give out, so for those who missed out - or those for whom it is time to run out the carpet again - :-: ^ WELCOME TO FLYERTALK! ^ :-: |
