Just to follow up briefly, GoldCircle, work2fly and I met up in Kennedys. A good conversation and meet. I understand drbond and his entourage did not make the city center tonight, so I'm hoping to catch up with him some other time.

Aidan

Actually, we did meet up at Kennedy's and enjoyed a couple rounds.....what time did you all finally get there? We figured that work2fly would be too plane-fried to make the 5:30/6:00 time, but we did hang out there 'til at least 7 or so.
Very cool pub, that Kennedy's was...will have to check it again.

work2fly Nov 26, 2006 2:24 am

Sorry to have missed you skye1 - we were at the front end of the bar in the "middle" room until about 8pm.

aidanc and GoldCircle : It was great to meet up with both of you. I had a fantastic time!!

drbond Nov 26, 2006 3:19 am

The pub we were in only had one room with an older gent tending the bar. if you came out of pearce st station and walked along the wall, turned to the left and walked in the pub on the corner, we were there,,,, all of us 6 that is sitting straight back. is there more than one kennedys

I beleive that's either Mahaffeys (which is about 20 yards from the station, at a cross-roads) or a pub opposite the Alexander Hotel (which I can't remember the name of).

If you walked about 150 yards away from the station and then turned left (at a T-juction), Kennedys was on the other side of the street as you turned.

Ooops... There are something like 1000 pubs in Dublin, many with the same or similar names. It's easy to get mixed up.

Hope you had a good visit over the weekend, and please let the locals know when you're going to be back.

Aidan

The Kennedy's we were in was really not that big...like drbond said, just one room. Right on the "river". We would have noted anyone walking in. Having met work2fly that weekend and already knowing GoldCircle, I'm sure we would have spotted each other if we were in the same place.

Well, the sure-fire answer to that problem is for "the locals" to organise an encore of last year's Dublin Do....that would do it. Whilst Goldcircle did an awesome job of putting last year's event together, I think he'd happily defer that to another local this year...does your post mean you're volunteering?? :D.

drbond Nov 27, 2006 4:55 am

Yes there are more than one Kennedy's Pub! Dang!!

Just did some research and we were at Kennedy's at the corner of Tara Street and George's Quay. We went into the Fire Brigade parking deck to park and they sent us out on the street  so we parked at the end of Spring Garden Lane on Townsend Street and the guard told us to walk down Luke Street and it was right on the corner at the station entrance :( . Guess which station? "TARA STREET STATION".

So there may be 20 Kennedy's around there  . I now know where Kennedy's is, I think, at the corner of Lincoln Place and {30-32} Westland Row.

Parking was an impossibility all most in that area. Next time for us (Irish Countrysiders :) ) please post a parking location directions. We "crazy" ones travel everywhere by car, even in Dublin. I guess if we had came by train two great things would have happened. One: we would have avoided the HORRIBLE traffic that night and Two: we might have ended up at the correct Kennedy's (not where the fire brigade hangs out) :)

I'm back in the US, back in the US, back in the USA. Wish I were still in IRELAND! ^

I wish I had, had this imformation before hand

We definetly were not here skye1

Kennedy's is a funky bar around the corner from Trinity College.

Kennedy's is a traditional bar situated on the corner of Westland Row near the back entrance of Trinity College and a stone's throw from the busy crowds of Grafton Street and Dame Street.

Once the home of dusty professors and debating students from Trinity College, Kennedy's recently got a revamp on the inside while retaining their very stylish old pub front. But the bar retains its friendly and intimate atmosphere with helpful staff and a very tasty selection of beers.

As pubs in the city centre getting busier and busier, Kennedy's has become a popular haunt on a weekend night with late opening till 2.30pm on Friday and Saturday night. Filled with trendy urbanities and clubbers, Kennedy's has become a very exciting spot to revile late into the weekend.

So for a funky weekend, check out Kennedy's.

Who would have thought that one of the best enchiladas on the planet was to be had at an Irish pub in Malahide!

drbond Nov 27, 2006 4:21 pm

Tazan007 was in Malahide at Gibney's when we were there!

Another reason whenever someone has a DO, we should put a tent sign on the table that says "FLYERTALK" or something to clearly identify us.

I suppose I could have whipped out my flyertalk luggage tag.

Tanzan might have come up to the table & asked, "Excuse me, are you with the Flyertalk group?" I'd hate to think we missed his/her question, if he/she made the attempt. I'll confess to being pretty taken by the great Irish food, and great Mexican food :), and work2fly had JUST gotten off the overnight flight, so I guess I'm sorry if Tanzan came over and I totally was oblivious to it...wasn't meaning to be rude if he/she came up and felt ignored :)

Wow...it's a shame that we missed Tazan007 especially since we had such a nice time at Gibney's!!

I also had a little difficulty finding aidanc and GoldCircle at Kennedy's. I probably passed them 3 or 4 times until I finally noticed the flyertak luggage tag on the bar.

drbond makes a good point about clearly identifying ourselves - especially since most of us were meeting each other for the first time.

drbond Nov 27, 2006 8:04 pm

I want to make another very IMPORTANT point!

We enjoyed meeting you guys at Gibney's. The whole family thinks you were both interesting.

Your family was a BLAST!!! What a concept---a whole family of mileage-runners! Awesome.

It was really a lot of fun hanging out with you all on Saturday afternoon. Your kids' questions were great. Thanks for letting me catch up on a nap or two in the car. I'll have to put Gibney's on my list next time I'm there...SO easy to get to, and that whole Malahide-Skerries area was definitely an area I'd return to. And, you've inspired me to make a "Return to Newgrange" as well.
