(Tentative Information Only) I went ahead and set a date of Friday the 24th since there is a preference for that date. I have a reservation at The Harp Inn for 20 at the moment. They will serve us food as well as drink. Need to get a time from everyone, recommending between 11, 1 or 2. They take VI/MC/AX and Laser. If my memory serves me correct there is not a Bank of Ireland near this location but I do believe there is an AIB and Ulster Bank for ATM usage. They prepare platters for us, but if you are all like me, you would just prefer the bar food.
From the airport take the main road into Swords, when you pass Eddie Rockets on the left, continue straight to the castle and its on the right of the castle. __________________ |
drbond,
I would love to attend, but am not really sure that I can .... however, can you please allow me to make some comments / suggestions (as a former Swords resident, I might add ;) ) Visiting an American-style diner in Swords seems to me like visiting an Irish bar in London or New York - not sure if it is the best place to go ... And when I was in Swords (admittedly a few years ago), even the guard dogs went into the Harp in groups, if you get my drift ;) Could I suggest that somewhere like Gibneys bar in Malahide would be a much better option, and the restaurants in Malahide are also more varied, and better quality. Malahide is 5 mins or so further than Swords by Taxi from the airport, and is also served by the DART train service from Dublin city centre, for anyone already in the city ... Just my 2 cents worth ... JP |

This is Flyertalk, after all, and one could easily misconstrue a midnight pub crawl of sorts :D. |

Malahide is also fine with me. If I offended you by questioning your choice of establishment, please accept my apologies .... however ER was still alive and kicking when I posted .... Re: The Harp - it had a reputation as a bit of a seedy joint, with frequent fist-fights etc. etc. - not sure if that is still the case, but I would check it out if I were you .... JP |

I'll be taking a cab from my hotel so I don't think the choice of venue makes any difference to me.
Perhaps we see what works best for the others and go from there. I was planning to visit Malahide and Gibney's anyway - so if we do it on Friday as a group or I do it by myself later in the weekend, no big deal to me either way. See you all in 1 week!!! |
So, (and maybe i'm just brainfried on a friday after work)....what was finally decided as a venue, time, etc.? And, how does one get there on public trans. or without a car at least?? About how far from/close to Dublin is it?
(I've seen some great options thrown around the thread here, just trying to see what's firm). |
I currently live in Dublin and so would be very interested in attending. Sign me up!

I say we re-name the thread, "Thanksgiving for Guiness....or Guiness for Thanksgiving" :D :D
Not familiar with "north of Dublin" other than the aiport...this Malahide town looks really cool! |
Good idea, "Irish DO, Nov 24th, Thanksgiving for Guiness!"
Malahide has been set with Mr. Gibney himself. Check post one for directions. If coming by DART, get off the train and walk in. :D |
Malahide is a very nice choice! ^ I feel 11 may be a bit early in the day...
Unfortunately, it looks like work may get in the way - but, leave me on the list for now. |
