One of the best FT events I remember, and it's been highlighted already, was the San Diego Do organized by Captain Mike and SanDiego1K. I still remember the demonstration with the explosives sniffing dog, the control tower tour and the explanation how things pretty much came to a halt when the BA 777 was crossing runways/taxi ways, and the noise monitoring program. One of the most informative events I've ever been to. If this is the correct San Diego Do, I even remember Chexfan winning a Corky Romano poster (that came out in 2001, so would have been 2000 or 2001).
Jan_AZ and Tom911,

Thanks for remembering the San Diego Do in 2001. We did have a great time. The background story to that DO that most folks don't know is that we were planning to originally have it in October of that year, not June like we did, but SanDiego1K voted for June, so June it was. With the 9/11 tragedy occurring that year, that event, in October, would have been cancelled!
I had a tough time arranging the control tower tour for 40 people in June as it was. Can you just imagine what they would have said if I wanted to do it in October? "Mister, I don't care who you are or what group of flyer fanatics you represent, you and your group ain't setting foot in this tower!!!" Civilians will probably never get an opportunity like that again - I'm sure glad we did.

Sooooo true Mike! We had the first DFW DO (the "PIM") two weeks after 9/11 and several events had to be reorganized (the airport operations tour was cancelled although DFW staff did scramble and get us into noise abatement and the airport planning office instead - and for some bizarre reason, AAdvantage decided it was in the interest of national security to cancel the "behind the scenes" tour they had scheduled)!

I was supposed to be out dining and dancing with Hunki at the Green Dolphin here in Chicago tonight, but sadly his job hit some snags so I am hanging out in the hotel awaiting his advice to order him something to eat from room service. While I wait, I have been doing some ancient FT history research, spurred by the awareness that Counsellor is FlyerTalker #70.

It would appear that at some point (probably during a softare update) all of us "originals" were re-entered alphabetically. Here are some samples:

AnnaS 21
Beckles 35
Blonde Bomber 41
Catman 62
Counsellor 70
Efrem 95
JAWS_II 128
Matt Wald 201
Merry 204
Merry Flyer 205
MileageAddict 215
NJDavid 224
PremEx 241
Punki 243
Quiet Lion 245
Randy Petersen 251
Rudi 258
Tropical Flyer 302

It would then apear that a second group of "originals" were again entered alphabetically:

Arturo (my love) 321
baobab 327
essxjay 410
jamiel 475
kyklin 497
newself 556
Onefreman 564

It was certainly interesting reviewing some of the original posts. I has been an amazing 8 1/2 years. ^

Those of you using Mozilla, can't see this number.

I remember when I first came aboard. For those newbees, not to worry. Everyone gets the cold shoulder for a while until you start to get under our skin (most times for the best...but not always).

You know you're getting old on FT when...

-you've done 6 Brooklyn Reality Tours.
-you long for the good old days (always 1 year before you joined).
-you need 10 fingers to be reminded how many times you've hung out with ....(fill in name here)
-you reminisce about how it cost you 20,000 miles to cash in a free domestic ticket.
-you can't believe that you had a credit card that didn't earn miles.
-people come to you for advice.
-you don't respond to a thread because the question has been asked/answered many times before
-you lose patience with some posters who don't share your writing/posting style.
-you have a habit of looking out for newbees in Coupon Connection.
-people address you by your screen name.
-you're still upset about missing the BA $20 fare because you were having drinks with ... Flyertalkers.

And finally, you know you're getting old on Flyertalk when: you've shared a room, meal, plane ride, football/baseball game, all with the same person.

*When you look at Punki's list of the original members and realize how long you have been on Flyertalk! (But you look at it with a smile and realize that you have been friends for 7-8 years.)

*When you stop and think how many Flyertalkers you have met at least once for drinks, dinner, dos or shared hotel rooms with or traveled around the world with and the number has entered TRIPLE digits!

OMNI for Clue: for someone who took six years to make a Brooklyn Reality tour it's worth every minute and it was more fun than I expected. Hopefully one day you'll make it (and hopefully I can clear the waitlist for 2007 )

You remember looking at a bunch of forums with no posts at all on them, and thinking "just how lame is the site?" (I think I checked out FT in the first week it opened -- I remember a bunch of "@@" navigations).

I guess I'm member 1414... never knew about member numbers until this thread... unless advanced age has robbed by memory.
