Sun April 30, hot fudge sundaes in San Francisco
Karen2 & I have been fantasizing about ice cream and chocolate. Perhaps we should have an event at the St. Francis Fountain. It's an old fashioned ice cream parlor(recently sold out of the original family, unfortunately)with malts,
sundaes, milkshakes, etc. Looks like something straight out of the 50's.
Any interest??
We can start discussing times and days after we see how many people would like to do this.
We now have 15 definites:
Mahasamatman+1
Richard in SF+1
Willie--wonka
Sweet Willie
Karen2 & Einar???
Sy7
Tom911
Tattikat2 & She Who Must be Obeyed
Magic111
Horizons + 1
And 3 possibles:
Work2Fly
Daringdo+1
The St.Francis Fountain is at 2801 24th St. on the SW corner of 24th St. & York. From the 101 N take the Potrero exit, turn left at 24th and start looking for parking. The neighborhood is Latino, so there will be more people than usual just ambling about.
From Bart at 24th ST., the ice cream shop is a long (20 minute) walk east on the south side of the street. But you will pass the pie shop in the first block past the McDonalds.
I spoke to the Fountain and they don't take reservations and I was warned that Sunday's are busy, but I think she was surprised enough to really make a note that we were coming, as she said on the phone.
I forgot to add, they make their own chocolates and other candies. It's the only place I know to get white and brown rock sugar candy.

RE:hot fudge sundaes
Weekends are more difficult for me, but Sundays are easier than Saturdays.
This Sunday is a little fast, but I'll go over and talk to them in the next couple of days. I have to make a quick turn to CDG the weekend of the 19th(don't ask, I got elected to the condo board there, and we threw out the old management company and are trying to get the finances straightened out. It wouldn't do to miss the first reorganization meeting, would it??). The 30th or the 14th May work best for me, if everyone prefers a weekend.
What do you think, Karen??
PS.Most of you would consider the area marginal. It's probably 4 blocks west of Potrero(close to General Hospital), in a neighborhood that is clearly Latin American. Good regional fruit and pastry shops. The soda fountain is on the south-west corner of Potrero and York. It is closest to the 24th St. Bart, but quite a hike east to York. However you do pass the really good, Pie Store if you walk on the south side going east past the McDonalds.(Choose strawberry and whipped cream first).

I can do the 30th, but am out of town on the 14th -- got a kid graduating from college then!
The advantage of a weekend for me is that it is difficult to work and then drive up and back from the South Bay on a weekday.

Re:ice cream social
OK, I'll see if they will reserve a couple of booths for us on Sun April 30, about 2:30 PM.
Please post if you are coming with the usual "definite", "maybe", etc.

Is this the type of delectable event we should move to CommunityBuzz as more people interested in attending may not be regular readers of this forum???

Doesn't this really belong in the CommunityBuzz forum???
Anyhow, I'm out of town on April 30. So you'll have to schedule an encore!
