Smile First time meeting a Flyertalker face to face

Moderator: Forgive me if there's a better place to post this , if there is please move it there.

I was out to dinner at the one of the local indian casinos near Arcata , CA. with my parents tonight. I'm visiting up here for thier anniversary. Towards the end of dinner I hear a gentleman discussing multiple United frequent flyer promotions with his dinner companions. After having caught my attention , I decided to go over and say hello when I heard him mention the "West Coast" promotion (obviously a detailed conversation). I scribbled WWW.FLYERTALK.COM on a piece of scratch paper and handed in to him, while I introduced myself. I figured if he wasn't knee deep in the community , he should be.
It turns out he was aware , and was already a member.
As I walked away from his table I could hear one of his table mates saying something like; "Wow , there really is a whole community behind this"
I'll PM him this post and he can ID himself if he'd like.

Also , a thank you to him for clueing me in to making the Flyertalk luggage tags , I just hadn't gotten around to looking that up , and now I don't have to.

Cool story. There are some unusual places to meet Flyertalkers, or at least places where you wouldn't automatically expect it. For a long time I couldn't sit in 13H on a UA 777 without sitting next to a FTer... but that's one of the more likely places I imagine.

Is ID'ing myself the same as being outed?

Actually, it was great to meet another FT'er...and on the ground, no less! (And Rexly's parents, whom he indeed was with, are quite the charming couple!)

I appreciate being a part of the FT community. After heading up to SEA last month for VJ's seminar, I parlayed some segments before the end of the year into 2P on United, and am now enjoying several MR's to max out the West Coast promo.

But as so many others have noted about Mileage Runs, "you either get it or you don't!" Rexly certainly happened to see that look of incredulity on the faces of my dining companions as I cautiously explained what I was doing each weekend...

But to the point: my FT luggage tags are affixed! And thanks to all the FTers for sharing their wealth of knowledge, and the Mod's for keeping everything running so smoothly.

With gratitude,
--Clint
