It should work with my calendar. Thanks Willie! :)

ElmhurstNick Jan 10, 2006 9:32 am

I know that this will cause ILuvParis great distress  but I will be flying ORD-BOS that evening for work.

ILuvParis Jan 10, 2006 10:12 am

Well, ElmhurstNick, you should know by now that your presence is not required for fun to be had at your expense. When is the Marquette Inn do again? :D

As to the Berghoff, I will be returning from a trip that day, myself. I hope to be able to make it.

Grasshopper Jan 10, 2006 1:21 pm

can't stay out too late that night, but I should be able to make it...

Schurr Jan 10, 2006 3:17 pm

If I'm in town that evening, I' be there. I usually don't know my schedule until the end of January.

I enjoyed meeting all the local folks last evening! Thanks SweetWillie. :)

Well, if last night is any indication, you could have been all tucked in with your glass of warm milk, by 9:30. :)

buzzer Jan 12, 2006 8:02 pm

(Alas?) I'll be in Costa Rica, soaking up rays and cervezas.

Monday's dinner at Berghoff's was a kick, though. It was a treat to meet everyone, and I get chills -- chills, I say -- just thinking about the gold dust drifting onto my person from the neighborly yet sphinx-like Mr. Pillows. I hope I'm not being impertinent when I repeat an overheard snippet of conversation, something about "a sh*tload of options."

I should perhaps add, not being a regular at Berghoff's, that I had forgotten how delicious is cabbage cooked with greasy meat. Lord, that brisket was good.

Finally, as a public service, allow me to pass along to a more general audience my evaluation of Ativan (generic name: lorazepam) as unsurpassed among pharmeceuticals useful for long-haul flights. Unlike Ambien, which wears off fast and leaves me wide awake, Ativan imparts not only sleep but a wonderful feeling of comfort during waking hours, to the extent that, at least in my case, I'm so comfortable I don't want to move a muscle. Demand this miracle of modern medicine from your physician in 10mg, not the namby-pamby 5mg, dosage.

How would you ever know that I have a scotch and water at my elbow.

Later -

Have to admit.... The food was great. It will be missed. Now where did I put that bratwurst???

You should know better not to ask that question here...

Friendly bump for mogulskiir's benefit... :)

work2fly Jan 16, 2006 5:26 pm

I would love to join you all but a weekday trip to Chicago isn't in the cards anytime soon.

FWIW: I had a fantastic reuben and winterfest beer at the ORD location this past Saturday. I'll be passing through ORD the weekend after next and I can't wait to get some more.

Enjoy!!!

It was great meeting some of you on the way home from NRT. I do not know my work schedule out that far but if I have the evening off I will be there.

EdisonCarter Jan 17, 2006 5:25 pm

I'm a definite maybe, if I can go standby for an earlier LAX-ORD flight and give myself a longer layover before flying out of ORD at 9:25 pm.

FYI, I live a few miles north of ORD so you would have a ride to the airport if you wanted. Unless you want to take the 1hr El ride. :)

Despite my love for the blue line, I'd be happy to take you up on your offer if I'm able to make it in.

I've only eaten at the Berghoff once. I had meat (covered in gravy) and potatoes (boiled) - hope to repeat that!

WWBGD Jan 18, 2006 11:57 am

Count me in Willie. I had a great time last week, so I'm good...I think.

raisin Jan 22, 2006 10:14 pm

I will plan to attend this event. Promise.

lalala Jan 23, 2006 12:09 am

we went last night for one last dinner (sniff), The line was nearly to the end of the block and the wait was 2.5 hours. They pulled the 2 tops out of line, so we only had to wait over an hour. However, for us wusses, the 26 degree temps were a bit too much.

It was good too. :)

Now I'm a definite no, as my plans have changed - I'll have to grab something from the Berghoff cafe in ORD as I pass through at lunchtime. Have fun without me!

ILuvParis Jan 27, 2006 9:26 am

Willie, I don't know whether you made reservations in anticipation of a similar sized group, but I read yesterday that all reservations are taken. Waiting times currently are from 45 minutes to 2 1/2 hours. People are advised to dress for the weather and waiting in line outside.

No I had not made reservations as I was waiting till closer to the date for a final group count.

I don't wait well for a restaurant and I really can't think of one I would wait for more than 30 minutes for. Perhaps the dinner start time should be bumped up or pushed back to get in w/o a long wait time?

raisin Jan 30, 2006 7:52 pm

I could do earlier that evening, if necessary.

dliesse Feb 3, 2006 1:58 pm

I'd love to join y'all, but I have another meeting that night that can't be conveniently rescheduled. At least I work just a block away from the restaurant and can get over there for lunch!

If we need to adjust times, that works for me.

toomanybooks Feb 5, 2006 8:41 am

Sweet Willie:

I'd like to attend, maybe bringing Frau Doktor Professor toomanybooks and toomanybooks, Jr., but I know I'll get substantial objections to a big wait in line. Maybe we could make it at an odd hour.

Will they serve food in the bar?

My brother from ATL will be here on business Feb. 8 and I'm trying to talk him into a Berghoff stop.

FightingIlliniUAL Feb 8, 2006 7:23 pm

So has a time been set for this? I would really appreciate it if we can do dinner around 6pm-ish.

I offer to walk over at 5:30 and get a table.

Omar, I hope you're not walking over tonight after work...the date is 21Feb (oops :o )

They aren't giving out any more reservations and I don't think we have one.

Plus they won't seat you until your entire party is present.

We don't have a reservation as I was waiting until closer to the actual date, oh well.

I have to be honest, I'm not a fan of waiting for any restaurant, so the earlier the better on this day. I'll call them and see if they'll say how long the average wait is at 5:30PM if one does not have a reservation. if longer than 30 minutes, I'm out of this one.

Schurr Feb 10, 2006 8:19 pm

I will be in MSN that day. Es tut mir Leid. I hope the line is not too long and the weather not too bad.

The restaurant confirmed that waits from near 5 till late are running 1.5 - 2 hours. A bud had dinner the other night and waited well over an hour he said, but he was drinking much beer as usual so I'm guessing his time was longer than he mentioned.

Therefore I am withdrawing from this Do as I refuse to wait for restaurants.
Sorry to all.

raisin Feb 14, 2006 7:45 pm

Sigh. I'll catch up with you all someday.

Sorry to all.

Someone needs to check the TOS. Can one withdraw from his own do? :D

Sorry to all.

I certainly don't blame you, for I would do the same thing.

It's funny - if I would say this, I'm sure the reaction would be  or :td: or something like iluv is being his typical princess-pillows self.

At least someone can get away with it. ^

cawhite Feb 15, 2006 8:15 am

No problem Willie -- I'm going to have to bail on it too as I'll now be in far far hinterlands that afternoon and wouldn't make it back into the city on time

Mateo4321 Feb 15, 2006 4:51 pm

d'oh...i'll be somewhere between BOS-SNN on a mileage run :D

Grasshopper Feb 15, 2006 9:34 pm

<pulls ripcord>

ejecting from this - need to sleep/study, ER board exam the next morning.

Berghoff Auction

Berghoff is having an auction at the restaurant on March 4. There's some pretty cool pictures of old Chicago being offered. You have to sign up in advance. You can see the items up for auction in this post:
