Hi there!
Just interested in having a DO with all the young people on FT! Not that there is anything wrong with anyone over 25, but I thought it would be nice to get to know some fellow young travellers.
I know it would be probably impossible to get most of the <25's in the one place at the same time, but it was just a thought!
OK, how about this. A 'DO' that involves doing fun, more kid like activities like going to a theme park, watching movies, skiing, snowboarding, volleyball, foozball, going to fast food restaurants (maybe not all the time), going to clubs until the wee hours of the morning, hanging out in the hotel room , spontaneous stuff etc. No definite itinerary, no pressure, just as it comes.
This may be a really stoopid idea for a DO so don't bag me out too much, but it's just an IDEA!!! However, anyone who would like to participate in these 'activities' would be welcome to join.
Preferred Places to hold the DO:
Canada (Vancouver, Toronto, Whistler etc.)
New York
San Francisco
London
Paris
Anywhere in Central Europe...
Trying to get the closest spot with the highest concentration of FT'ers which could come.
When:
Anytime between December 2005 and February 2006
Winter time in the Northern Hemisphere.
Who:
"ANYONE" Ages: 0-120 (anyone older shouldn't be around but of course more the welcome to attend.)
Why:
Because it's something different, and everyone is still a bit of a kid.
Got any ideas?
Think it's great?
Think it's stupid?
Wouldn't come if it was the last 'DO' ever?
Spill......

There was a similar proposal a couple of years ago, followed by a contentious discussion about whether or not this sort of thing was appropriate. Bottom line was that it's OK to arrange get-togethers whose activities are designed to appeal primarily to a particular group - under/over age X, GLBT, or anything else - but it is absolutely, positively not OK to restrict them. Any FTer who's interested in those activities, whatever they are, must not only be allowed to attend, but must not be made in any way to feel unwelcome.
If you can live with that approach, go for it. (I'm far enough over 25 that I probably won't show up.)
BTW - just notice you're from Brisbane. Where were you on Friday the 3rd when we had an FT dinner at the Breakfast Creek Hotel, or were we all too old?

This has been a topic of discussion here before. (Here's one thread I could find) on the topic. FT events tend to be age neutral (you'll find folks from 16 to upwards of 60 at them). By limiting a get together to a specific age group you exclude folks that may want to exchange information about their favorite airline and hotel programs. Have you been to many get togethers? I'm not in favor of any limitiations.

I, too, probably would not show up, but I think it's important that anyone be made to feel welcome, even though they may not be in the targeted age group (or any other group the event may be marketed towards).

However, the same hapless FTer then started a SECOND thread, in which he attempted to dictate the terms of posting, with a remarkable lack of success:
30 and under thread ** NO DEBATE**
I think the consensus that emerged from this debate was this: PUBLICLY POSTED FlyerTalk get-togethers are deemed to be open to EVERYONE who is interested. However, if you want to set up your own PRIVATE gatherings among people of similar ages, interests, etc. via PM and e-mail, go for it!

The same is true of the "Gayla"s from the GLBT. They may have mostly Gay activities but they have to be open to the entire community.
The Delta Forum has had several Meets. They were first mentioned on that forum, and had a Delta atmosphere about them, but they were also publicized on Community Buzz and all members were welcome (and quite a few non Delta flyers showed up and enjoyed themselves).

Seems to be a dead issue and the last thing I want to do is spark a debate or be made out to be discriminatory! As I said, I have nothing against people over 25 of course! Just thought it would be nice to have an event to meet fellow young travellers thats all. If the rules say to have it open to everyone, then of course, anyone is invited!
It probably wouldn't work anyway.
I had somehting at my college so I wasn't able to attend, although if another event was planned, I would be MORE than happy to schmooze with some of the more 'knowledgable' FTers!

Man, you guys are making even ME feel old. I always thought I was among the younger FTers... but then that under 30 thread started (I think I had just turned 31)... and now we're down to under 25?
Maybe I should propose a 30 to 39 DO now that we've had a few 30th b-days. Oh, but wait... that would exclude at least 3 FTers I'm friends with that haven't had that milestone yet... and a couple who just had their 40th, as well as many who are far on the gap one way or the other of either of those.
As suggested by others, plan an event that has the activities that you think the over 25s might not be interested in if you are really trying to target a certain crowd (although be forewarned, I know 40-somethings on here who are more up with certain DJs, 30-somethings who are on the VIP lists at the hot celebrity-flooded clubs in multiple cities, and 60-somethings who do their exercises every day so they can embarrass a few 20-somethings in any type of physical challenge). See who shows up... you might be surprised at how much fun you have.
Or better yet, there is another Oz-fest in works. Join the fun there... the group is normally so large that many folks end up splintering off into smaller clusters to do things. I've noticed that people with common interests at these big things will naturally gravitate together and you'll be able to hang with your preferred audience.

go for it!!!
I'm over 25 yet don't have a problem with this type (or any age preference) do.. just my two cents.. if someone wants to hang/meet etc a specific type/age/even airline or hotel FT'er.. so be it..
I think that some are just saying its a bad idea b/c they do not fit in the criteria being listed.. even though they most likely wouldn't have an interest in attending.. but thats just pure speculation
There probably isn't anything from stopping you from doing this although instead of having a big thread on this.. post it once, bump it occasionally but have the interested parties PM you privately.. set up your details privately.. and don't publicize it too much.. more so you don't get flamed than anything else.. and I am also guessing moderators would shut your thread down as well.. again pure speculation

If someone wants to have a Meet with many activities that would primarilly interest the under-25 crowd, that is fine -- just as long as any other member can come if he wants to.

I've got at least one pair of socks that are less than 25 years-old.
I know that's a tenuous connection but can I still attend??
