Any way to get to Canada without renting a car?

There is apparently a public bus system (according to the city's website) however it does not go to the airport.

Yep, that is correct. Buses are all brand new, however, and make frequent stops throughout the city.

It was about 17 out of 19 seats outbound from PIT.... I think six of us got off in Watertown, only two of us FTers. There was a large group going to Massena on board.

Coming back to Pittsburgh, four or five boarded in ART. About 8 people already on board the plane inbound from MSS.
Interesting....thanks for the info!

You can take a Greyhound bus (www.greyhound.com) to Canada but they don't run very often and the times aren't great. You'd probably be better off renting a car

ART & LEB Airport Advice

Would appreciate the view of upcomming ART & LEB travelers. I will be spending 5 nights in ART arriving at 2200 and departing at 0630 the following morning. I will also be spending 5 nights in LEB arriving at 1835 departing at 0645 the next morning. I would like to avoid spending $$$$ for a hotel on such a short stay. Would someone ask and/or take notes whether the terminal closes and if so, a nearby place to rest your head. Thanks!

There's nothing but hard plastic bus-station benches in the Watertown terminal, and I gather the terminal is closed and locked after the last flight arrives since there's no way to close off the TSA equipment. Outside are some wooden benches that are planks. I very much doubt they'll let you sleep in the airport, but I can ask when I'm there on the 27th.

Airport in Watertown is closed and locked after last flight of the evening. They do not allow anyone in the building overnight, so you will want to make lodging arrangements as well as transportation arrangements (unless you are cabbing it) before you arrive. There are some campgrounds in the area if hotels are out of your price range.

haha, will a tent fit in the overhead bin on the Beachcraft? Does that count as a second bag? ;)

(I'm roughing it at the Econolodge)

You have my condolences.

There is NOTHING wrong with an Econolodge in smaller markets... the only ones that scare me are those in big cities.

What, no lounge nor Hot Spot?

Once inside the terminal, the officer opens a gate and shepherds everyone two steps into the lobby. Another three steps puts you at the entrance of the terminal.
And yes there are plastic bus terminal seats inside the terminal. Bathrooms are right there. They even provide a water cooler.
Did not look for outlets there, but I imagine(hope) they would be accessible.
About 20 minutes to flight time they gear up security for the influx. Be prepared to be intently wanded and checked.

Can you sleep on the picnic table?

If someone gets a chance, snap a picture of the inside of the plane from PIT to ART for those of us who have never flown that type of aircraft.

Found this on an internet aviation photos site:
http://www.airliners.net/open.file/779766/L/

It's a good shot of the interior of a US Airways Express/Air Midwest B1900D, same as those used on this route.

That would actually be a useful thing to know for the 10PM - 6:30AM layover crowd (of which I am one, once). I'm more comfortable in my bag than in an EconoLodge. (Or than in most beds, actually)

Hell, bedding down on the floor at JFK was good enough to catch some shuteye before getting on a transcon and resuming my nap--I'm sure this would be just the same (assuming no rain of course)

And I'm sure that, just as at JFK, the gradually swelling roar of passengers awaiting departure for all manner of exotic destinations (or Pittsburgh) will wake me up at the proper time. :D

But I'd be concerned about any local vagrancy laws. Lotta places do still have em.

I seem to recall it being a bit darker inside. And more stuffy.

A suggestion for those not wanting to shell out the big bucks for a hotel room. Have you considered renting a car for the day(night) and sleeping inside that? :p
