Quote: moondog,

I think that the only thing that is expected at a FT event is that you cover your share of the bill. The bill is just often split by the number of folks in attendance and most people are just fine with that. If you, however, are a student or on a really limited travel budget, and don't drink or want to eat a lot of fancy food, let the person in charge know, and ask if you can pay for just what you consume. I'll bet they will be willing to accomodate your request.

!
I would mention moondog - to go along with Punkis post here - that it is very helpful to have cash in the local denomination - as the host or hostess often gets the idine points

How many young adults usually attend these FT do's?

Not being ageist, but just wondering what the age ranges are for these FT do's? I am myself 22 and would love to go to one of these FT do's. Do any of you find that the younger FT'ers have trouble having fun at such meets? Or is it just as appealing and comfortable?

And why more whip cream at the Chicago do's?

P.S. Sorry moondog, that I am not helpful to your question, but would like to add great post! as I wanted to post something akin to this too ^

We've had FT'ers as young as 17 attend FT events alone. How comfortable you are depends much more on how outgoing you are than your date of birth. A lot of events involve post-meal barhopping, so being over 21 is beneficial to participate fully in those types of things (at least here in the States)

At the most recent DO I attended, VCE, there were attendees who were 19 and attendees who were in their mid 60s. The teenagers appeared to be able to keep up fairly well, and I do believe that a good time was had by all.

We tend to reserve the whipped cream for when princessiluv2havewhippedcream is in attendance (speaking for the recent Chicago "events")

Some observations:

**The most enjoyable part of Meets, for me at least, has always been the rampant sex -- and if you've never had sex on a rampant you don't know what you are missing.

**Despite the repeated calls for chocolate in this thread, there is absolutely no reason why a Swiss F/Ter should feel obligated to bring them. Rolexs, or even fully loaded numbered bank accounts, are equally acceptable.

**Studies show that when there are no moderators in the vicinity, 27.3% of the time is spent cursing them. When there are moderators present, this increases to 43.8%. As F/T meets are international events, you will have a unique opportunity to increase your vocabulary by learning obscenities in various languages.

**If the Meet is one of the infamous Delta Forum sponsored events, you will get a free bottle of Cholula Hot Sauce. You will also get a free Cholula Hot Sauce t-shirt and a free Cholula Hot Sauce electric button which flashes on and off. Cholula, himself, rarely flashes (when sober).

**Most Meets are blasts. It is hoped, however, that this particular term will not be applied to the upcoming Tel Aviv Meet.

**Meets have proven hazardous to existing F/T relationships. All too often when people who detest each other on the forum meet in person they form friendships which completely destroy the carefully created animosity.

**Most FlyerTalkers are intelligent, articulate, people with whom you will have an extremely enjoyable time. On the other hand, there is always the possibility that I will show up.

It WAS a rought night - the fire started on the floor below jockdAAddy's office - you may have to share your space for awhile. Is everyone you know, OK?

Yep, everyone okay, friends who were still on that floor made it out or were already gone. A bit shaky though.... for two+ years prior to May 2004, our mailcode was 135/2900
