Celebrate In-DO-pendence in the 49th State Capital

The city of Juneau does its fireworks show at 12:01am on the 4th, so if you play your cards right, you might be able to celebrate the 4th there AND in your own home state!

Jerry.A.Laska has promised us a tour of the firestation...and we all KNOW how much I love firem ..err stations

As the holiday falls towards the end of the weekend, I'm thinking we could even make this into a multi-city Do.

Alaska Air awards allow for a stopover within SE Alaska when travelling to another destination in the state. However, not sure how the restrictions work if you're using someone elses miles to fly them.

With the Alaska Air permanent fund sale (also matched by AA, NW, CO) you should be able to fly from home->sitka->juneau->home for around $500 from the east coast/midwest and a little less from the west coast.

Anyone who wants to make an extended trip of it could easily convince me to fly up over the arctic circle to Barrow or Prudhoe, or go off to Homer or Kenai for some halibut fishing . Did I hear someone say WINNEBAGO??

Yes, I already have an update!

I just booked award tickets for myself.

Thurs June 30th - SEA->SCC (Thats Prudhoe Bay for you non airport code readers)

Friday Jul 1 SCC->ANC

Sat Jul 2 ANC->JNU

Mon Jul 4 JNU->SEA

I believe you heard yourself say Winnebago Seriously, I've always wanted to visit Alaska, I would want to see more than just one place. It's a long way away on the calendar, but I think I can make it. Would really like to do some hiking around Denali, Kenai, etc. Thanks, Missy, for posting this!! Yeah, I wish I could be on a plane to BCN right now too....sigh....

Juneau, that sounds like fun (read that slowly and then it will be semi-amusing).

You cracked me up too! Good one, and I'm sure Jerry's never heard it. We've talked about an Alaska do before, and here it is. I'm a definite maybe.

Well as I posted on the Vancouver thread - decisions, decisions. I love Vancouver, but haven't been to Alaska. And both will be better than family reunion in HOT HUMID Tennessee. Will decide as it gets closer. Of course you'll all back me up when I tell the family it's a biz trip even though it's a holiday weekend & I can't blow it off. Cheers. Sharon
