Let's post our events on the FT Calendar
I encourage any of us organizing dinners and Dos to post them on the FT calendar. The new software makes it much more user friendly. I've just posted two July dinners, and learned I didn't have to submit the posts to the FT staff for approval before they posted. They immediately popped up on the calendar.
We no longer have the thread running on all pending FT events, but we could really use the calendar feature to make it an effective tool. A great feature is that once posted, anyone can use it to be reminded of that particular event.
For those wondering where "Calendars" is, look at your toolbar. It is the 3rd item from the left, after "MyFlyerTalk" and "FAQ".

I just tried taking a look at the FT Calendar for July to see the event listings you speak of.
It took me a LONG time to find them. They didn't stand out at all. Most of the calendar is cluttered with FTer birthdays.
I really don't think the Calendar is going to be that useful for this purpose. Also, there seemed to be some performance problems with it, at least on my computer.
Maybe we ought to recruit some new volunteers to resurrect and maintain the events thread. There must be some FTers out there who have the time and energy; and if they get burned out on it after a few months, we could recruit some new ones. @:-)

I'd love to have a calendar with events. I couldn't figure out how to add anything to the one that's there now
and I agree it's too cluttered with birthdays. As I understand it, the software will allow more than one, so why not one just for events?
The thread was way too convoluted and confusing.

I do not understand the confusion....
If it is a birthday, either a cake appears beside the FTer or it says "3 birthdays" or however many there are. Events show up under the birthdays.
Also, easy to change months to view.
Easy to add events... just click on the add link at the bottom.
We really need to use the tools that are provided.... instead of creating new ones.

Birthdays gotta GO!!!
The birthday thing is really a clutter and nuisance.. if this was gone then it would have a fighting chance, but right now its too painful to use and look at with all those birthdays
just my 2 cents

I agree with an earlier poster's suggestion that if we are going to put events on the calendar, there should be a separate calendar for that purpose.
So, a Birthday Calendar, an Events Calendar, and who knows what other calendars may evolve. Maybe even an Aviation History Calendar, or at least a FlyerTalk Milestones Calendar. @:-)

Bumping this, because as of today, Randy has enabled everyone to post events in the FT calendar.
Several of you who are hosting dinners and Dos did your best to post your events on the calendar with no success. Would you please try again? I'd love for the FT calendar to become a vibrant, reliable source of what is going on in FT land.
OK, while i don't have a 30 inch new monitor from Apple to disply all the intriging choices that the admin displays in living color, I did manage to flip a few switches so test out your (hopeful) new ability to enter events into the Public calendar. Any member hosting a member 'Do' is strongly advised to list your event on this calendar

Well, i just passed my general programming test today (successfully opened up the Calendar posting privileges without launching weapons of mass destruction against FlyerTalk) and thought i'd move on to the next challenge - multiple calendars. So thanks to the suggestions of alanw and KathyWdrf (you looked marvelous at the Freddie!), I've now created multiple calendars, one for Members Do's and events and one for Birthdays.
So, now you can all enjoy Calendars - at the level of interest you personally have.
Enjoy.
