Spring Forward in SAN, March 11-13, 2022

A few of us happened to meet up in SAN in March 2020, just as things were starting to get weird, then got together again last year as a sort of perverse one-year anniversary observation, and since the 2nd one randomly coincided with the time change weekend, it was decided that henceforth this would be an annual Spring Forward DO, so whether:
  • ... you hate Standard Time and want to celebrate the return of Daylight Saving
  • ... or if you're a non-West-coaster and figure as long as your circadian rhythm's going to be thrown off anyway, might as well do it in a different time zone
  • ... or just want some other excuse to visit San Diego
mark your calendars for March 11-13, 2022.

The first two weekends were extremely haphazard/casual/"self-organizing", and this one probably will be too, unless some event comes up that looks interesting as a group. Given the likely attendees, there will probably be brewery visits and maybe an organized dinner or two. Last year included a ferry trip to Coronado Island (and ok lunch at Coronado Brewing Company). Anyway March is much too far away to plan anything concrete, right? So this is mostly a save-the-date.

If anyone is interested, and I hope nobody is, I would be happy to give a public transit tour of San Diego showcasing the varied bus and rail fleet of the SDMTS. If you're lucky, you'll hear my world-famous rant about some of the decisions they have made.

I don't have to go all the way to San Diego to hear you rant!

But I'm probably interested barring something strange.

why do I think it isn’t too much of a stretch to say you’re probably interested in a strange bar or two also?

I live in San Diego, so I haven't really stayed in any hotels and thus don't have a specific recommendation. But I do suggest that you book something in the gaslamp/downtown area. That is where people have stayed the last few times, and is likely where the meetups will be. I especially recommend it if you don't plan to rent a car, because it is one of few areas in SD that is walkable and has decent public transportation.

My work travel is picking up lately, so I'm not positive I will be in town. But certainly I will join you guys if I'm around. Feel free to reach out to me if you want help planning any of the events.

I am confirmed.

I have a JAL SAN-NRT ticket booked on the 14th...

Right now I'd say that is a 0% chance sooo.....I'll probably have to find a new way home.

Regarding hotels the US Grant has thanks to this (previously) informal DO become one of my favorite hotels in the USA. I'll be staying there for sure.

I have started to look at hotels and that may be what prevents me from going. But it remains to be seen... never say never.
