depends how things are buy I may come back over for this (subject to flights available / virus situation / immigration etc) as things I was doing here have now been cancelled - in fact everything cancelled until end of June.
Will probably decide the week before.

Update

I posted this on the WineDo thread, but not everyone reads that.

While I'm the forever optimist, I'm also a realist. I can't imagine anyone being able to move around the country safely by early June. If you've been following the news coverage (who hasn't) you too know that BRT isn't happening this year. If things change, we'll talk. I know some of you have purchased tickets to NY. From what I've been reading, refunds and credits are being offered. If things do take a turn, and you decide to come to New York when things get better, let me know.

Stay home. Practice social distancing. Take this $ hit seriously.

As a New Yorker, Janice and I have self quarantined for 2.5 weeks. You do adjust to it. Think Groundhog Day without the humor.

If you live someplace where you're just entering the curve, shop for groceries now. Next day delivery has morphed to 5 days (my experience). I'm starting to read reports of close to 3 week delivery. That's for name and local grocers.

I'll miss you at our annual gathering. BRT = FlyertalkFamily. One last thing, Stay T.F. Home.

Unhappy

Sorry it didn't work out Dan. I know how much you you enjoy doing this. Once this all blows over, if you're ever in the neighborhood, don't be a stranger

See you next year hopefully (if not sooner).

Stay safe and well with your family Dan!

Attending this year wasn't in the cards for me but I plan to attend future BRT's so look forward to catching up when we meet again.

Here's a feel good story about L&B Spumoni Gardens and Brooklyn born and bred Larry King >

New York’s Friars Club and its dean, legendary broadcast star Larry King, joined with iconic Brooklyn eatery L&B Spumoni Gardens to deliver 150 meals to frontline healthcare workers Today at Maimonides Medical Center.

Left Dan a voice mail, but heads up to anyone else interested...

Was streaming some Food Network shows on the FN app on TV & noticed one w/ Alex Guaranaschelli called 'Fix Me A Plate'. I'll pretty much watch anything she does, so clicked on it.

They're 5 minute vignettes/spotlights on food places in Brooklyn & NYC. The one I watched (S2; Ep 5) was Spumoni Gardens, which is usually on Dan's tour. Sigh - memories of the pizza & spumoni.

I'd say of the 14 episodes (2 seasons) most places were in Brooklyn & Dan would probably recognize a # of them & even some of the NYC places. Again, this particular show each episode is 3-9 minutes long.

If you can't physically be on Dan's Brooklyn tour this year, this may be a way to virtually tour through the food joints & won't take very long

Cheers.

We've been stopping at L&B Spumoni Gardens for years and years. https://spumonigardens.com/ They make one of the best Sicilian (square) slices in the city. Here's the video Sharon references >
FYI, they're currently open for take out only. They make the Sicilian in a style called upside down. They lay the sauce over the sliced cheese. In the NY metro area, shredded cheese is usually used to make the pie, and it goes on top of the sauce. They also use olive oil when making the pie. The woman in the video from L&B is so Brooklyn. Don'tya just want a piece. I want a slice real bad.

Here's an idea. Since I have nothing to do on Saturday June 13, if anyone wants to meet me at L&B, let me know. We can do lunch or dinner leaning against my car - 6 feet (2m) away from each other. We have to be socially distant. I wonder out loud if mary2e would schlep to Brooklyn for pizza? I know some others that said they'd be in NYC no matter what. I'm around.

I still have my flight to New York, so this may not be out of the question for me. I also missed this part of the tour last time, so it would allow me to finally complete it. I would not want to ride mass transit yet, though, so I would need to drive out. Is anyone else interested?

I won't know if I'm able to make it until sometime next week, but I will be driving there if I do go. If you fly into LGA or JFK, I would be happy to pick you up.

Dhammer: how about we uncancel this? Instead of mass transit we can ride scooters. I might bring Mr Katycab too.

I would have loved to social distance with you next week, but we're social distancing with my son and family to celebrate his birthday. We usually do this on Sunday, but they were busy. As we approach the original date of BRT, I'm starting to crave L&B Spumoni Gardens. Let me know the next time you're in town. I've been known to meet Flyertalkers for pizza and bakery goodies in Brooklyn.

Since we were flying up specifically for this I will just change my flights. Maybe July 18 would work? Or if you want to do it Sunday I can keep the same flights as we dont leave until Sunday afternoon currently.

We kept our flights, and both Mr Katycab and I will be in NYC Saturday and Sunday too if anyone wants to meet up.
