I just priced SFO-PVG departing on 2/16-22 and it's $698 S fares. Lowest upgradable fare is H at $1023. Doesn't seem like there's anything between S and H being offered at the moment.

Is it a correct assumption that those are 6-night stays? I'm looking 17/18-21st and still getting $1700 out of ORD

Talking to the 1K Desk, these fares aren't available ex-ORD. For the fares above, one has to buy a SFO-PVG-SFO ticket and then (if needed) the ORD-SFO-ORD separately.

When pigs fly out of your butt...

(How ironic that I'm replying from the F lounge in HKG on my way back to ORD.)

All have rooms in the $40 to 70 range.

I am seeing the Jing an Hotel 4* for $65 per night at www.hrs.de for the nights of Feb 17-21. Unless a post of something better appears shortly we are probably going to go ahead with this offering.

I'm in!

Count me in! :) I booked one of my United "1 for 2" promo awards SFO-PVG. (Unfortunately, it's in Economy. Fortunately, it's on the nonstops.)

No hotel booked yet, but plenty of time to figure that out, and get the Chinese visa.

A trip report has just been posted by an FTer who traveled independently from Shanghai to Bejing. It's worthwhile reading for any of us planning to extend our stay beyond the Shanghai weekend.

The Shanghai Hilton has loaded cheaper rates for the time we will be in town. There is a refundable rate of $132 now available. (The nonrefundable rate is $125, not much of a savings.)

It was rather disconcerting to leave the passports with no receipt or anything, but when I asked, they did let me copy down a "case number."

Still, this is a real pain in the neck. Some web page I read said that if you have a round trip air ticket and exit/enter via Pudong in less than 48 hours, you can get a visa on arrival. Wonder if that still applies, it seemed current? Rather short, but maybe would work for some.

Just general info from me, as of right now, alas, I don't think I can make this event!

Yes, the 48 hour rule still applies (at least for US passport holders). Just need to have a valid airplane ticket out of Shanghai before the 48 hours.
