Put me as a maybe for the afternoon tea, assuming I can squeeze myself out of the usual sunday family dinner.
|
Looks like our tea group is closed. I've added violist and ws8n. Great group, I'm looking forward to it.
|
Count me in for dinner.
I booked my trip to SIN about 3 weeks ago to inaugurate my newly comped status on UA, and I just found out about this event. As it turns out, I will be there around the same dates--arriving late 1/14 and departing early 1/18. Having just found FT a couple of months ago, this will be my first chance to do one of these events. It's also my first trip to SIN. I booked it more as a "going to someplace I've never been" trip than a MR. |
Flying Buccaneer,
Have you added to the dinner list. Welcome Aboard! I currently only have your name listed on the dinner list as your itinerary slightly earlier. Happy to add you details to the Itineraries page as well though if you send me details. We shall feast on crabs together either way. Your call. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif Also, will you be meeting us at the Conrad before dinner for an aperitif? Best, Mike ------------------ FT Pictures Page (hosted by markbach) My Starbucks City Mug Collection Page FT SIN RUN 2004 (2nd Annual Mileage Run For Chili Crabs) |
I just got email from the Conrad with a room rate I don't see on their website.
Classic room for one night includes Buffet Breakfast for two S$188+++. Valid from 1 December 2003 to 31 January 2004, except Christmas and New Year's Day. And from 19 December 2003 to 2 February 2004, book a Second Night or Second Classic Room inclusive of Buffet Breakfast for two at S$100+++. Probably the best way to book it is to email the hotel at [email protected]. If you are going to stay at the Conrad for 3 nights including Sunday night, then the best rate is on the website for S$180 with 3rd night free. (Credit goes to violist for spotting this rate.) |
You may count me as a probable. I'm just putting together a RTW now. I'm looking forward to it.

zvezda,
This thread slipped off my radar for a second there. In any case, hope to see you there and keep us updated as to your plans. Have added your name to the webpage now also. Hi all. Just stopping by & reading some of the get-togethers I can't make. As noted on pg. 1, I'll be in New Zealand at the time of this do (and hopefully using mjm's dolphin cert), but looks like fun. And hey, airfares still ok, so maybe I'll come over for a do later. Have a fab time!!

Thanks to the generosity of a pair of
FT colleagues, I am confirmed in Biz on all legs except for NRT-SIN, for which I am on the priority waitlist. My seats, for the benefit of anyone interested in an onboard party on the Flyertalk bus, are: LAX-NRT 16H NRT-SIN 30J SIN-NRT 11A Again, I'll be at LAX the night of the 14th, so anyone up for an outing to, say, Monterey Park for a dress rehearsal, let me know. |

I am still pricing out fares at about $1000. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif |
USD752 all-inclusive, BOS-SIN-BWI, VXSP32
- but it's not as though I hopped right on this bandwagon - but rather waited craftily until the price appeared to be right. Maybe the people here already got the good fares for those days. |
hey, count me in too. I am taking my holiday vacation time after Jan. 10 so SIN would be a perfect head start for requalifying elite.
Also, FYI below. Rumors were that SARS would resurface again, this only adds fuel to that fire but I am not worried. Worst case scenario, I would standby to fly back earlier. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif Link to news story about SARS ------------------ Feed the world this Christmas for FREE! I'd like to go, too! Just so happens I'm getting to Singapore in the wee early hours of Jan. 15 on NW to kick off a fairly long Asia trip. Guess I lucked out on the timing.
Will probably be staying at the Tai Hoe Hotel in Little India (now convenient to the Farrer Park MRT) unless I land something on Priceline. Can meet up with group at Conrad to head out, though (could also take own taxi if necessary). In addition to 1/17 dinner, any activities on the day of or before might be do-able for me. Will probably head to Kuala Lumpur on Sunday. Hope there's still room. Have been using FlyerTalk for some 3 years now but this would be my first gathering. Am excited about. |
RustyC,
Welcome aboard. There is absolutely room. If you post me your details I will update the webpage in the next couple of days. Anyone find any good fares to SIN for those dates lately exORD? I really wanna go!
|
Hope everyone has gotten their flu shot. Been down with the flu for the past week, and it has been the absolute worst time in my life.
Merry Christmas to all and see ya in a few wks time! |
My spouse and I recently decided we were going to try for the first time to make NW silver. From FT we learned that by doing so early in '04 we would be silver for the remainder of '04 and for all '05. To make a long story shorter, we decided on a MR run of DTW-SIN for 1/15-1/19 which we found out after the fact was the weekend of something called SIN DO 2004. Not knowing anything about it I posted a Q in itineries. dhammer53 pointed us to this thread and after reading about it we decided it sounds like fun! Soooo if you don't mind a couple of green-horn rookie travelers from Ann Arbor(Go Blue) tagging along with y'all we'd love to take a chance on some chili crabs. FYI: 1st trip over the date-line, 1st trip out of the country, 1st MR, etc, etc.... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif |
dlouise37,
You two are very welcome indeed to join this gang of crazy, mileage happy, crab eating, miles and points gabbing group for an evening in SIN. Welcome Aboard! If you can post to me via e-mail ([email protected]) as much of your itinerary and hotel details as you are comfortable with, I will add those details to our SIN Run 2004 Homepage. There will be several new faces and a few whose names you may recognize from various threads on FT. We will not be a huge group, but certainly large enough to test your memory when you look at your pictures after you get home several thousand miles later. If you have any questions or need info, ask here or feel free to e-mail me. See you two in SIN soon, Mike ------------------ FT Pictures Page (hosted by markbach) My Starbucks City Mug Collection Page FT SIN RUN 2004 (2nd Annual Mileage Run For Chili Crabs) |

I think I may actually make the switch to UAL next year... I'm going to go check prices.
|
We are looking into it. However, Sidestep quotes $720 for United from SFO and LAX and UAL's website for the exact same itinerary is quoting over $1000. Very frustrating. Will be using the antiquated phone system to see if I can't get a better fare. This is very weird. Plus, the multi-city hasn't worked right in some time.
|
Well, that'll teach me to post something assuming the chances with Priceline are remote. Got the 4-star Concorde Hotel at $40 for the nights of 1/15, 16 and 17, so I will be staying there. Looks like it's kinda northwest of Chinatown, but I can still be at the Conrad at the appointed time Saturday.
Looks like the biddingfortravel reviews of the Concorde are decidedly mixed, but I'm just not used to getting 4-star at $40 and hope the glass is more half-full than half-empty. Itinerarywise, I'll be on DL 55 leaving ATL at 10:05 a.m. Jan. 13, arriving NRT 2:25 p.m. Jan. 14, then on NW 11 leaving NRT 6:20 p.m. arriving SIN 1:05 a.m. Jan. 15. Will probably just stay in airport 1/15. Won't be heading back to ATL until mid-March. Will head up through Malaysia & Thailand, then over to Philippines, then on an award sidetrip from MNL to Majuro and Yap. Am really excited about going to Yap over Yap Day. Am also looking forward to this! |
*sobbing* I'm doing a run to qualify for triple miles and will be in LON that day! D*MN! IF CXleverage had priced this out with a decent D fare I would've been SERIOUSLY torn but as it was it was $7k. *sigh* I'll be with y'all in spirit.
|
UA has ORD-SIN on Wed 1/14 - Tue 1/20 VXSP33 $681.19 ($733 fare, $789.19 ticket, 15% off).
Sorry I won't be able to join you guys. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif Headed to Rome and Florence 1/12-1/20 on a $311 CO ticket, courtesy of BA's $99 sale in November. [This message has been edited by mitchell (edited Dec 27, 2003).] |
I was checking weather.com and it seems to be pretty warm year round, What is the appropriate dress for day and evening in the city? What would be appropriate for tea on sunday and dinner on Saturday?
Thanks! |

Just wanted to find out if anyone is coming to SIN from SYD or AKL for the DO? I'm flying from AKL to SYD and onward to SIN the 16th and returning same routing on the 19th.
Looking forward to meeting everyone... |
Hot, humid, even way into the wee hours of the night. I hate it.... :P
There may still be quite a bit of rain, so be prepared for sudden showers or even non-stop rain. btw, I just realised that Chinese New Year is 22/23 Jan, which means that seafood is going to be more expensive than usual and not as good..... a lot of merchants are hording the good stuff for reunion dinners. |

Thanks!</font> Now regarding Sat's dinner at Jumbos-- keep in mind you'll be eating crabs (and other foodstuffs) by hand, seating is outdoors (no a/c & humidity running about 95%) with the sandy beach only steps away, so casual/ cool is the only way to go-- But as stated above, keep an umbrella handy at all times! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif [This message has been edited by mauld (edited Dec 30, 2003).] |
Gosh...I am tempted. The NW fares are a little high and 6 day min stay. Maybe a nested run would justify the time out.
