Ok after one party flight to LHR, my cousin is interested in the SIN Run. mjm, can you put us on the maybe list. Need to find a way how to explain to non-ft-family members why we might need to miss dinner for Chinese New Year http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif
|
Just for the fun of it, I did a search for fares and came up with a fare of $762 on United. I have never flown United and am really unfamiliar with the program. The fare is V class. Is this upgradeable with miles? How many miles/points would it take? I have SPG, Hilton, and AMEX points. What are my options other than 24 hours in coach? I have CO Plat but nothing on United.
|
Rachel, V fares on UA aren't upgradable with miles http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif However, maybe some other UAer will be nice enough to gift you some SWU's should you go ahead with this.
|
prncess, sorry, even the run-of-the-mill
SWUs won't fix a V fare. You may have some luck finding Sweet Spots, those extra-special SWUs that upgrade virtually anything; I've had all of mine spoken for, as my girlfriend has unfortunately gotten the taste for flying up front (we had a schedule change on our Christmas trip and she was fussing at me that we were riding in C on one leg); on the outbound I'm going in coach but downgraded myself on a Europe trip so I can return in style. A side note to kluau - remember that the Lunar New Year doesn't begin until the next week! |
back to the drawing board then on how to get to SIN. Thanks for the UAL advice.
Rachel |
Looks like CO's cheapest is now $3800!!!! (with NW at $1711 !!) http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif Hopefully they'll come to their senses and have a fare sale in the coming month. I'm sure if a sale occurs, some quick thinking FT'er will post it immediately.
PS-Mike, I've changed my hotel for Sat night to the Conrad Hilton (cxl the Ritz), so I'll meet up with all in the lounge there. |
so would this be a fun event for someone (like me http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif ) who doesn't drink much and can't eat seafood??
considering I would have to do it in coach to do it at all?/ but now that I've made 2P for 2004 (or will..on miles and the 9K from great offer) I WANT TO KEEP IT! |

Kev,
Got you and your cousin noted on the maybe list on the website. Hope you can make it. prncess674, Have also added your name to the maybe list and hope that the fares behave and we can welcome you to our little feast in SIN. Been a while and would be nice to catch up. mauld, Have noted the hotel change and have also added your name also to the pre-dinner meet list at the Conrad. squeakr, Well worth it in my mileage fogged brain. I would recommend using every avenue available to see about finding a sweet spot to get yourself into C class for at least the SFO-NRT-SFO legs. The NRT-SIN-NRT part is not bad in coach, and I will be there to prove it. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif In SIN there is a wealth of food choices and although we are headed to a seafood meal that night, I imagine (if memory serves we had satay chicken and some other meat as starters last time) we can order some non-seafood just as easily. I suspect the drinking part is likely to happen much later after dinner if it happens. Think about it and drop a note if you want further info. squeakr:
I'd be glad of more company on my search to fill the never-fillable stomach [g]. Please show up, Mr. squeakr too, if he's up for the rigors of transpacific travel in coach. I'm going in coach, and if I can do it anyone can. I think we're going to the Jumbo seafood restaurant by the water; I don't know the menu there, but other Jumbo restaurants have a good selection of roast poultry, pig dishes, and so on. In general, you can eat quite well without ever touching anything with fins or shells. |
Is anyone going there on UA on a CDYMBH fare?
If so, e-mail me. |
Hi,
I am very tentatively planning to attend my first FT DO, if I can fly down to NZ and find an award seat from AKL to SIN on the right dates. So if you wish, you could put me down as a very tentative attendee. Would love to meet all of you! |
It looks like Sean and I will have to wait until the last minute on this.. but will leep you posted. I think we can manage economy class on this route http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif esp. given what I've read about the design errors in CX's new regional business class.
|
Well I just booked this fun little weekend. Comming in on Thursday Jan 15 on the UA flight from NRT. I will be leaving on Monday 19 Jan back to NRT and MSP Upgraded on all legs except NRT-SIN. (Now all I need to find are some sweet spots or hope that the 1K SWU's are in the account by then.) Look forward to this.

Staying at the Orchard Hotel from 1/17 to 1/19. Won bid on priceline.hk. Used bonus money posted on flyertalk to further reduce cost. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif
Paying about $37/night after bonus money for a 4* hotel. I do miss the 50% UA coupon last year where one can get the Conrad for about $55/night. (lots of posts on FT on that one!) |
Put me down as a definite maybe http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif
Love to do it but have to see if I can juggle my schedule (and does anyone have one of those 15% off or a Sweet Spot - might be able to do a 2 swu for one ss if I can make the trip) If anyone emails me I'll be in SIN over the next 2 days so have email but then I'll be on a small island (atoll) with no email for 10 days...then another atoll with ? email until Dec 4 - so if I don't get back to you right away please understand. Last year was great fun! Squeaker - AIR - I had a glass of wine - others had a beer or two - but by no means was there a lot of drinking http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif Now I didn't go to the later get together (too full and too jet lagged - or is that too old?) anyway so I can't speak for that. UA_Eagle,
I would be very pleased to put you down as a very tentative attendee. I look forward to putting your status to "Confirmed" in the near future as well. Happy travel planning and post here or e-mail when you are set and we will see you in SIN. GK and Sean, You have contact numbers in SIN for a few of us so right up until the last minute is just fine. A good platter of chili and pepper crabs will give you the stamina needed to host 20 or 30 guests in HKG a few weeks later. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif MSY-MSP, Welcome aboard! Looking forward to meeting you in SIN. I have added your name and some of your details to the website now. When you have a second, e-mail the balance of your flight and hotel details and I shall add those more completely to the site straight away. See you in SIN. chemist661, I have now added your details to the website. Looks like you got an outstanding deal. See you again soon. I hope I can make this trip work. If so, I can't wait to SIN with all of you.
|
Tried pricing itins for this trip and fares aren't cooperating http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif What kinda fares are you folks finding from the west coast? For a normal routing, it was pricing in the upper 900 range and that's not even an H fare http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif
|
DFWTripGuy,
I will take that as a maybe. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif Have added your name to the webpage under the W/L section and we look forward to hearing of your status upgrade to SIN. Would anyone like to join Jan_AZ and me for afternoon tea at Raffles Hotel on Sunday, January 19, probably about 4:30pm? I prefer the Billiard Room to the Tiffin Room, so much more relaxing in those lovely rattan chairs with their squishy cushions. Afternoon tea is a mix of east and west. They have a buffet, with many of the traditional British tea items, but add a number of Indian and Chinese nibbles. They often also have a heaping bowl of strawberries with an equally large bowl of whipped cream. Yum. Raffles is about a 10 minute walk from the Conrad.

All,
The webpage is now updated to show details of the Afternoon Tea invitation. Link is at: http://home.inter.net/mjm/sinrun04tea.html and can aslo be accessed from all the other pages on the website. The limit of people on this particular reservation is 6 with 3 spots after adding prncess674 to Carol and Jan's names. jan_az, Hotel details are now shown for you as well on the website. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif Mike ------------------ FT Pictures Page (hosted by markbach) My Starbucks City Mug Collection Page FT SIN RUN 2004 (2nd Annual Mileage Run For Chili Crabs) [This message has been edited by mjm (edited Nov 23, 2003).] |
I would like to join the group for tea at Raffles.
Tim in Bangkok. |
chemist661, noted. Now two spaces left for the Afternoon Tea reservation.
All flight and hotel details received to date are up on the website now. As the rest of the goup finalize their details post here or e-mail and the website will be updated immediately. Yikes! I had to check my emails with Raffles to be sure I had booked the right date - and thank goodness, I have. We've got a group of 6 booked in the Billiard Room at 4:30pm on the Sunday of our SIN Run weekend.
They appear to have changed to a traditional British menu, with what they call three tier service - but I am sure it will be very good. And we have the fun of being in Singapore's most historically reknown hotel. (There's a story about a tiger being found under the billiard table in the room where we'll have tea.) The price is an affordable 25 Sing Dollars. That's $15 US. Welcome, prncss674 and chemist661. Coming: 1. SanDiego1K 2. Jan_az 3. Prncss674 4. Chemist661 5. violist 6.ws8n [This message has been edited by SanDiego1K (edited Nov 26, 2003).] |
I'm a maybe too. Let's see what AA has available for me. Is anyone possibly going in on AA, JL or CX?
Edited because AA not always = AAdvantage [This message has been edited by inkoherent (edited Nov 24, 2003).] |
inkoherent,
I have you noted on the webpage now. Keep us posted as to your status and we will hope to see you in SIN. ____________________________________________ I received a note from FTer siamfly and have also added him to the list of possible attendees. FYI people, did a qick looksee after a convo I had in chat and most city pairs I have seen are a wee bit high, but SAN-SIN via flights 930, 869 outbound and 800,890 returning is kicking out at $713 in V class as of today. (Dates are out 1/15 back 1/19)Elsewhere on the west coast it is high.

If there aren't two more who are dying for
the tea at Raffles, I'd be very happy to go, as the only thing I've ever done there is have one of those Hawaiian-punchy things at the Long Bar. I have no plans at all for the weekend other than what people are talking about as part of the "do." Also, would anyone be interested in dinner in (say) Monterey Park on the 14th? A sort of dress rehearsal for the main event. |
