Pre-Christmas in Munich (~19 - 22 Dec)

I have sort of a tradition (whenever I can) of spending the weekend leading up to Christmas in Munich. It is usually nice "Christmasy" weather, and the Kirstkindl Markt and the Zimtsterne and(especially) the Glühwein are a delight.

Just wondered if anyone else was going to be in town that weekend? We could probably get together and have a beer, or a Haxen, or even ein paar Weißwurst or so.

(By the way - If anyone is looking for lodging, the Marriott and Starwood chains seem to have specials still for that weekend.)

Which is better: Starwood or Marriott?

They're pretty close. I'm finding rates around 65 - 80 euros per night for that timeframe in both chains.

Some of the better rates are at the airport or outside town (but still on the MVV transport net).

Sorry to miss Counsellor's get-together since I attended one in February. He is very cordial and hospitable. However, I WILL be in Munich on December 10 & 11. One of the reasons that I'll be there is to photograph the Kristkindl Markts in various areas. What part of the city is Munich's in? What are Zimtsterne? Cinammon stars?

1. Munich's Kristkindl Markt is on and around the Marienplatz, where we met in February (and where the Glockenspiel is).

2. Yes, Cinnamon Stars. Moist cake ones (about 1/4 inch thick and the size of the old silver dollar) with white frosting. Sort of a Munich Christmas tradition.

Sorry I won't be there that week, but maybe next time you're in town . . .

It'll be great to see you again, Steffi. You too, Ralf. Almost exactly a year to the week, isn't it?

Cinnamon stars, eh? That sounds like a Munich tradition I could, uh, sink my teeth into. That is, after ein paar Weißwurst (my faves)!

So you have to stay at the Renaissance Munich Hotel or ArabellaSheraton Grand Hotel where you can already get Weißwurst on the buffet breakfast ...

Lucky me: I'm booked (once again) at the Rennaisance Marriott.

They've got a Christmas Special rate right now of 77 Euros including breakfast.

I really enjoyed my visit to Munich last December-- would love to go again. Unfortunately, doesn't look like it will work in my schedule. Have fun everyone!
