Chicago - Phoenix Dumpling House

Indo79 and I have plans to munch on some great Chinese dumplings (and other treats) on December 4th at the Phoenix Dumpling House in Chicago's Chinatown.

Any and all FT'ers welcome, just let this thread know.

BTW, December 4th is a Thursday (who would have guessed? )

If I get back from Indianapolis early enough, I'll be there. If I wasn't going to make status with exactly 60 segments, I'd fly Southwest to avoid having to drive in on the Kennedy during rush hour. (I don't drive Indy-Chicago because of an excessive and irrational hatred of the Borman Expressway and the south third of the Tri-State).

Although 12/4 is a little too far away for me to commit now......
Do you think that if I CAN make it, I should actually PAY this time??

I'll try to keep up with the thread and keep my fingers crossed that I can make it!!
Best wishes, Dave

If we can nail down the exact time, I can probably make a better committment decision. I'll probably be flying in from DFW, won't be in downtown till probably 9-9:30....would love to meet some of you regular chi-town food critics...=)

I'm in Chicago that night (leaving Dec. 5), but I'm not sure I'm free for dinner (need to help with tear-down of a trade show booth).

count me as a maybe...

a maybe if i get back from DC early enough that day.

are you going to the upstairs restaurant or the downstairs one?

The downstairs one i think is marginal for a lot of the food, expect for the "shanghai xiao long bao" Those are pretty good...not compared to New York, Shanghai or Taiwan, but pretty good for where we're at...

It will be the one at the bottom. My review on FT Dining was exactly what you pointed out. The xiao long bao is pretty darn good and the rest is decent.

I had that again this past weekend with the congee and fried dough or "char kway"
