SJU Vaction Help/Advice
The wife and I are planning a vaction to SJU on 11/21/2003, (EFD to SJU). We would appreciate any advice and counsel regarding an economical hotel/motel, places to go, see, and do, as well as any information regarding any of the hotels that particpate in the priceline and other related programs. If priceline or related programs were used, what were the successful bids that were accepted as well as what options were also given? Any other advice to help us avoid surprises would also be helpful. I have done a lot of research on this and have found a lot of negative reviews regarding a lot of the hotels/motels at SJU. I have decided to take some of the suggestions from the FT Community.
We are returning on 11/26/2003 SJU/EWR/EFD. Has anyone done this on a holiday. Any Bumps?
I know this is a tall order but I really need some help on this. Thanks.

Umm... do you know about www.biddingfortravel.com ? It lists people's bidding experiences and includes reviews of the hotels. For $65-$70 a night, you have an equal chance of the Wyndham Condado Plaza and the Caribe Hilton, both listed as 3 stars. Both are in good locations on the beach and near restaurants and Old San Juan. At either place you wouldn't need a car- although a car is always handy. We didn't have any complaints about the Condado Plaza- but then again, I'm not all that picky. The beach, pools and other facilities were fine, although Condado is one of the busier beach areas. If you're looking for isolation, rent a car and drive to one of the many remote spots all around the island.
Hotel prices in SJU are outrageous-- Priceline is truly the only option to consider.
I hope this isn't too general- do you have other more specific questions/concerns?

checking priceline every 3 days for 65-80 is worth trying. If you get stuck you can try webrates at the wyndham old san juan, well located, probably $120+
room taxes and resort fees add up here whether you use priceline or not.
