So this Community is not permitted to remember 9/11 ??????????

A very touching, respectful and apt 9/11 Memorial poem is deemed NOT appropriate for Flyer Talk Community and gets locked and allegedly moved to the wasteland of OMNI. Knowingly dredging up 'Happy Birthday' threads for folks who are months away from their Birthday is on the same day perfectly fine in this Forum?

I certainly know which of the two I would have moved to OMNI.

Thank you again MrStarAlliance. I personally feel YOU got it right.

The moderator IMO got it way wrong, not only by locking the thread, but NOT moving it to OMNI as she claimed. It is not even in "Misplaced Posts".

Perhaps this was an instruction from Randy - but I sincerely doubt that.

The events of 9/11 have touched and affected EVERY person on FT. I can't think of a MORE appropriate Forum for such a thoughtful poem to have been be posted in.

I am sad I was denied the opportunity to add my endorsement to the sentiments MrStarAlliance outlined far better than I could ever have done, and will do so here.

Thank you for your touching and perfectly chosen words:

-----------------------------------

Hi all.

I have a short poem that I put together today to in memory of those we lost on 911.

Please add your kind words to this post

"Two years ago around this time
The world was but to change

An event that changed the whole wide world
We will never be the same.

There we watched with tear filled eyes
All seen on one TV

Our dear friends lay hurting
What a dreadful sight to see

But here we are, two years have passed
Almost to the day

The pain, the hurt, the sadness long
It will never go away.

But gathered here, both young and old
We have a common task

To free our skys, to live our lives
To fly like in the past

As the day grows longer still
And darkness fills the land

We send our love to those we lost
We know youre in gods hands."

Dave

As much as I like the post, it was an appropriate move, IMHO.

Holocaust, Pearl Harbor, Columbine, 9/11...all OMNI in this general "Memorial" context, IMHO.

If we were remembering a specific member(s) of the FlyerTalk community, I think that would be different.

PremEx ... part of my point was the thread was NOT moved as the moderator alleged she had done.

It simply vanished, and allowed no-one to add their thoughts - in any Forum - to what was a well thought out post that clearly too the Flyertalker a lot of time to write.

As 9/11 was very recent, and was 100% aviation related I felt it had a particular relevance to the FT Community.

Not true. It was moved. I saw it there earlier today (before I even saw it here). And I just checked. It's still in OMNI where it was moved:

http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttr...ML/015560.html

Further, the thread directly above it (at this very moment) contains a 5:57pm post which pushed it down one, so that's the proof it was moved when the moderator said it was.

I still think it was a good move to OMNI. World War II involved airplanes and aviation, both military and civilian, and had particular relevance to the FlyerTalk Community. Same with Iraq and hundreds of other subjects. But they don't belong here in the Community forum either, IMHO.

My apologies - yes following that Premex link I do see it is in fact in OMNI. Not added to since it was moved (which I will address now) and buried on page 2 behind a mass of Word Association type threads, which sends its own sad kind of message, and is why I personally think it was deservant of another fate.

I did actually do a search for it in OMNI when I first posted.

I searched under user MRSTARALLIANCE for past 5 days in OMNI and got zero matches. I also searched for the title word "remember" for past 5 days and got no matches to it. Guess I *assumed* it would not have simply sunk without trace over there.

gleff has recently reported in Technical Issues that "search" is faulty in Miles Buzz, and I'll add this example to the list to assist the techies pin down the problem.

Well, personally I don't think that just because a post isn't added to or countless "attaboys" tagged or doesn't have a high post count, doesn't mean it's any less appreciated. Nor do I think it's indicative of the readership.

Especially as it's a rather somber subject and some folks might just prefer to reflect on this great post without comment.

Also FYI, this post appeared on Page 1 of OMNI for most of the time after it was moved there. It just very recently dropped to Page 2 where it is at the very top of as of a few moments ago.

Posts don't just go where they might get the most readership. And I'm not saying that's why the poster posted here. Just that there has to be some organization and enforcement, or everyone will just post in the busiest forums just because of their high traffic and high readership.

Then what would FlyerTalk look like? IMHO.

PremEx, agreed. But what was the harm? And since the first response took a while (time stamped), this post was headed to page 2 rather quickly.

As for September 11, I don't know about you, but I had a shi##y day. Maybe today will be better.

I think this was a lovely poem that Dave wrote. I also think (although I am not the moderator who moved it) that essxjay was correct in moving it to OMNI.

I do not believe that her intent was to squelch free speech, diminish how we feel about 9/11, or make any type of personal statement. Rather she was acting in a way that we have agreed as Community moderators to keep this forum... for gatherings of the FT community.

We have stretched the definition of the forum to allow for birthday threads and other wishes to the FT Community. In this case, the thread goes beyond that boundary and more into a statement.

This thread (as a discussion of a moderation issue) is also off-topic. As such, I'm going to MOVE it to the Only Randy Petersen forum. If Randy has a different direction he would have liked us to move in for this, I am certain he will weigh in and that will help us keep our moderation even-handed in the future.
