cervisiam, did you still want to talk about the water taxi on the morning of August 25?

cecelia, enjoy the wine, especially the prosecco!

Seth: Tried to check that website you suggested but they've been updating the site for two days now. Will try to remember to check later and post results for a little car.

I am willing to be that the site doesn't get updated in time for people to actually be able to use it. I would suggest calling them directly (the person I spoke with the other day was very nice) at 800.845.3365.

As for prices, I have the book, so here are some of them:
  • Group B -- Lancia Y 3 Door (no A/C, no radio) -- $36
  • Group C -- Fiat Punto 5 Door -- $43
  • Group E -- Opel AstraClub 1.7 DTI SW 5 Door -- $52
  • Group G -- VW Passat 1.9 TDI SW 5 Door -- $68
  • Group I -- Opel Vectra 1.8 Auto (only Automatic transmission available) -- $75
  • Group H -- BMW 320 D 4 door -- $107
  • Group L -- Mercedes E Class 220 cdi 4 door -- $117

Notes:
All prices are per day for 2-13 day rentals. One day rentals are significantly more expensive.
Rates include all taxes, including that pesky 10% airport pickup tax. They also include all mandatory insurances, but there are other optional ones that Avis will offer you when you pick up the car. (That's right, the rental is really from Avis, which is a good thing!)
There are other cars available, but those are some common ones. Ask for more details when you call.
There is a $150/200/Full rate cancellation fee, depending on when you cancel. So only do this if you mean it.

Also, we (4 of us) will be arriving on the 11:50am flight on the 28th. Anyone want to share the Water Taxi? And for those of you who have booked one already, who did you call to do so?

Seth.

Seth-
We are arriving on the same flight(had me dates mixed up).
But, we have 4 as well - not sure how may these water taxis can accomodate - do you?
If we can swing it, we would be more and happy to share. [email protected]

Also a question on the rentals...When I called Italia tours they mentioned that the $50 surcharge is per person - I says, so if we have 4 people - the surcharge is $200? They say -yes. I believe they may be mistaken - any ideas?

Thanks.

I think water taxi has a surcharge for over 4. Will confirm if I can find my taxi rate book. As a practical matter, I think 6 with a lot of luggage will not fit.

A new system has been instuted at the airport. You pay for your taxi at a counter in the airport, and get a receipt. Give the receipt to the driver. Prices are much more favorable than direct dealing with the driver. I think VCE to the Danieli was 85, as there is a luggage surcharge also.

Based on the other post, I doubt that all 8 of us will fit. I'll probably have my FlyerTalk Luggage Tags on my luggage, so you will be able to find us on the plane/in AMS.

As for the rental car, I was told the same thing, then just told her to book it just for me, which made it only a $50 charge. And once the reservation is handed off to Avis I don't think it will matter. I'm going to make my res on Saturday, and I'll let you know if it doesn't work as expected.

Seth.

One month.

Venice hotels reserved, guide books bought, and transcon PDX-DCA booked. Now I need to get a hotel for DCA and NYC, and check to see if my CO miles transfer to Amtrak made it. I think I'll have a wonderful time.

Since soooo many people with different trip itineraries are taking this fare, I looked over the two threads and put together a list of who is going when. If you haven't posted your trip on FT, I won't have it on the list. If anyone emails me, be sure to put FT in the title, or it'll get dumped with the SMUT mail. I'll try to post the list by tomorrow. I've got to fix a hole in the roof right now.

I suggust that if you want to meet with a fellow FTer, that you email them directly and exchange details. A chance encounter because you are wearing yellow tags is unlikely to happen, but buy them because you never know! My eyesight is not the best, and I rarely look at anyone anyway. I am concentrated on where am I, where should I be, and absorbing the foreign surroundings. Traveling alone makes me more cautious about details, I've only got myself to turn to if I get lost or do something stupid.

The time period I will be traveling is August 26-September 1. Perhaps someone more familiar with Venice can suggust a meeting/dinner on Friday or Saturday? I want to take a day trip on one of those days, and I'm flexible.

One month.

Linda

Are there any other FTers on the flight 8/15? How about returning 8/21? Wish I was staying longer.

Seth and anyone else interested, the Italia car rental site is up now.

I could put whatever you come up with at the beginning of the thread if you wish to go that route. It does seem like a lot of us spread out, with the majority seemingly going Labor Day weekend.

Great work dlnewbie!
Although i'm not sure if you are using departure or arrival date. I personally leave on 8/27(6pm) but I arrive Venice on the 28th(11:50am). I probally screwed up and you are using arrival date.
If so the last 8 on the list are probally on the same flight, if this is the case - sounds like we could have a lil FT party.

I was using the actual date that the flight left. e.g. I'm leaving LGA on 8/28 but arrive in VCE on 8/29.

I may still have some dates wrong, though. If I've made any big glaring mistakes or someone wants to be added if they shoot me an email or leave a post in the board I can update the chart.
