Seoul on August 17?

This is truly a last minute invitation. I am flying to Taipei for my mom’s 80th birthday this Friday evening, Whoo-hoo. I moved my vacation six weeks earlier on short notice and just finished up ticketing yesterday.

I have an enormous eight hour layover in ICN on 8/17 and I was wondering whether there might be any FTers around ICN that morning. I would love to meet any fellow FlyerTalkers who might be at the airport or in town. My itinerary is as follows:

08/15/03(Friday) PDX to TPE via ICN (Seoul)
UA#1453 PDX-SFO 07:15pm-08:58pm

08/16/03, after four hour layover
OZ#213 SFO-ICN 01:00am-5:00am

08/17/03(Sunday)eight hour layover
OZ#3115 ICN-TPE 01:00pm-2:50pm

If nobody is available during this time, can anybody suggest how to take advantage of this layover, perhaps to explore Seoul (or a near-by town) for a couple of hours? Obviously, I would want to be able to get to town and back as quickly as possible and not stress myself out. I can check FlyerTalk up until 4:30pm Pacific Time on 8/15.

Thank you in advance.

Missed you by a couple of days...i'm flying out of ICN today to SF. I reckon you have at most 6 hrs. If you are ticketed as a transit stop in ICN (there will be a X next to your destination), you may have to pay departure tax.

Even with 6 hrs...you have at most 3 hrs to check out seoul. I suggest avoiding the shopping areas, as it can be quite a maze. Go to the GyeongBokgung Palace. If you still have time, you can wander further to Insadong where they sell tourist stuff. Check with the tourist info desk at airport. I am sure they can provide a better itineary than I can. FYI, I find difficulty communicating with the koreans in English.

Hope this helps.

That's because they speak Korean

Looks like I will be in Seoul on the 23rd or 24th. Not this time I guess. It takes about an hour to get into the city so take that into consideration.
