SEA / PDX DOes TUS (road trip)

In honor of AS having a reduced mileage award from SEA or PDX to TUS (13K mileage plan miles), I'm starting to put a group of (not all) FT'ers together to head south for a little Sidewinders baseball and insanity in mapsmith's home town.

I'm looking at SEA-TUS Friday, 8/1, returning Sunday 8/3. Anyone else interested in DOing this? When's the last time you had a chance to invade another town (basically travelling free)? There's great food, the Sidewinders vs. the Iowa Cubs, Nogales, Mexico 45 minutes away, great hotel rates that time if year (it's not as hot as PHX), not to mention Harley rentals.

Okay Fred. Let me know how many tickets to the game. (One of my former employees works in the Ticket office of the Sidewinders, and I MIGHT be able to score a decent group rate, Might is the operative word.)

I'm interested. I don't currently have any travel booked for the first week and a half of August, so the timing is good. Now to go check those PHX-TUS fares .

Maybe America West will have one of those great CyberSaver fares of $129 to TUS for this time period.

OK, it's all set...we have 4 coming down from SEA on AS 790 Friday the 1st of August, returning Sunday 8/3 on AS 739 at 1:37 PM.

So far, we're staying at the ES TUS Airport on $69/night suites. More are available at this rate, which includes 2 hour happy hour and cooked to order breakfast.

Saturday daytime (9AM - 3PM) is Harley Davidson rentals from TUS H-D (let me know if you want to reserve one & ride with us). We're planning on riding from TUS to Tombstone and other points beyond...then possibly taking backroads from Tombstone down to Nogales and back to TUS.

Saturday eve is the Tucson Sidwinders vs. Iowa Cubs (AAA Baseball, great park, fun crowd) at Tucson Electric Park. We'll be coordinating with Mapsmith re: the total number of tickets, so again, please advise if you want to attend this event.

What does the Portland Rose Festival have to do with a TUS FT event?

Unfortunately, I probably won't make it, even though FT and baseball are two of my favorite hobbies.

Problem is, Mrs. Western is scheduled to roll out the latest Western RJ about a week before this Do.

Maybe next time. But I'm always up for a Diamondbacks Do, if anyone else is interested!

Just to bump back up and to get some "definite" commitments.

Checking on prices for the Sidewinders (or the Diamondbacks Rehabbers since most of the early season Sidewinders are now on the roster of the Diamondbacks) It would help immensely to get a specific number of people and what quality of ticket is desired. Box Seats? Sky Box?

mapsmith your humble Sidewinders servant.

I have a group of 4 coming down from SEA; we get in on the 1st at about 2pm and have plans to stay at the Embassy Suites there at TUS. We have tickets for Sat night vs. the Iowa Cubs; our seats are section 118, row 9, seats 17-20; I believe this is the 3rd base side behind the Sidewinders dugoout. Hopefully, we can all sit in the same area! Looking forward to a great weekend in the nice hot sun...

I just noticed this thread, and at first wondered how I could have missed it, but then, on closer examination, I see that all but the last 2 posts were in May, while we were burning our OnePass miles on a First Class cross-country Amtrak trip.

Looks like I'll be in town, maybe it's about time for a special S.T.I.F.F.S. meeting.
