And we're marching to Bastille Day
The guillotine will claim her bloody prize
Sing, oh choirs of cacophony
The king has kneeled
To let his kingdom rise.

Rush, Bastille Day

Yes, I will be there 13-16 July

Woo Hoo!

At the Louvre the Special Collection of Da Vinci is on exhibit. The last day it is there is the 14th. We are arriving on the afternoon of the 13th so we want to at least go to see the exhibit on the 14th in the morning. My understanding is that the permenent collection is free on Bastille Day but it didn't mention what the price would be for Da Vinci. I have already purchase tix to come back and spend more time.

[edited because I am an idiot and originally posted Van Gogh...]

Rumor has it that they are the same person because no one has ever seen the two of them in the same room.

Hey! Thanks for this Wing!

I am right next to France right now! The people I am staying with are military and aren't really into going over the border. I, however, want to go over and am looking for something to do tommorrow and Monday - I leave Tue AM and won't be back until the 8th.

Maybe travel tommorrow, overnite and Louvre on Monday. That way maybe I can get tickets. I'll go do recon right now and see.

Thanks!

It doesn't look like you necessarily need reservations. And, with proper documentation , if you're unemployed, you don't even have to pay!

Louvre ticket info:
___________

To jump the queue in front of the pyramid or at the ticket offices, all you need to do is buy your ticket in advance.

You can either choose to receive it by mail, or collect it from one of the shops belonging to the chain where you ordered it.
Tickets sold in advance are not available at the Louvre.

The entrance ticket to the museum is valid for an unlimited period of time.
___________

Permanent collections and temporary exhibitions :
7,50 euros until 3pm;
5 euros after 3pm and on Sundays all day.

Exhibition at the hall Napolon :
7 euros.

Entry to the exhibition " Leonardo da Vinci " at the hall Napolon and the permanent collections :
11,50 euros before 3pm ;
9,50 euros after 3pm and Sunday all day.

Tickets valid all day, re-entry allowed.
___________

Admission to the museum is free to all visitors on the first Sunday of each month and on14th July (Bastille Day), except for the exhibition at the hall Napolon.

Free for children.

Free admission and direct access to the museum, without ticket, but with positive documentary evidence, for:
- under 18 years with valid identification;
- art, archaeology and architecture students with identification required for these subjects;
- unemployed with identification valid at least for six months;
- teachers and researchers in activity in an educational establishment, have free access to the permanent collections, except for the exhibitions at the hall Napoleon;
- disabled and accompanied disabled with valid identification.
To know more about: [email protected]
___________

Those holding tickets can enter the Louvre Museum without waiting, via the entrance in the passage Richelieu (between the Place du Palais Royal and the Cour Napolon, the Place of the pyramid, 9am-6pm), or via the shopping area Carrousel du Louvre (access through 99, rue de Rivoli or the Carrousel garden); then proceed directly to the checkpoint at the entrance of the collections.
___________

You can also buy your tickets in advance:
in Fnac, Virgin, Le Printemps, Les Galeries Lafayette, Le Bon March, BHV, Carrefour, Continent, Auchan, Extrapole, Hyper-Media.

By telephone: Fnac : 0 892 684 694 (0,34 euros per min.) ; from abroad, please dial :
00 33 1 42 31 32 28
Ticketnet : 0 892 697 073 (0,34 euros per min.) ; from abroad, please dial :
00 33 1 46 91 57 57
___________

By Internet: Ticketweb for visitors from USA and Canada.
FNAC or
TicketNet for visitors from other countries.

A commission will be added to the price of each ticket sold.

I bought my tix online and have them here with me now. I didn't buy the one on Bastille Day because it is free for entrance to the permenent collection so to see the special collection should be a less than the normal fee. On the web they just had the full tickets for sale (permenent + Da Vinci).

I am going to do some more investigation tommorrow on what exactly "not that far" means in terms of getting to Paris.

I am near the border in Germany and it seems ridiculous to go backwards to FRA to hop on a plane to get there.

This may indeed involve a whole day of train travel, in which case I may be visiting Paris (and the Louvre) later on, like after I hop over to another country for the 4th of July, as I have to be on a plane out of FRA for that trip by Tue AM.
