Missing person - Help a fellow Flyertalker

A very helpful poster at the BA board has asked us to check a link for a friend of his that has been missing since December, please spend a minute to check the link and see if you are able to help!

Thanks,

Scott

Dear Randy..

Is there anyway that a link to this missing person could be posted somewhere on FT (so maybe among the thousands of people who lurk or read the board daily) someone might recognize the guy>

Thanks. Don't know if it goes against any rules of the board.

Truly heartbreaking. I feel so weird and creepy-- I really, really wish I could help in some way.

I'd like to know if he was living or hanging out in my neck of the woods (Greenwich Village)-- if so I have innumerable ways of helping-- via NYPD and many, many other sources. I would be most anxious to help in any way possible.

Again, if he lived in the Village area-- especially the West Village area, contact me right away.

Good luck in any case-- I certainly hope we have a very happy ending in a very short time.

The main thing is spread the word, if you live/work in NYC...then forward on www.richardmassey.com to your co-workers...you just never know, someone might have seen him.......

I hope he doesn't just want to get away from his family and friends for a while... maybe he doesn't want to be found. What do the police say? Is he using his bank account and so on... I think we need some more details before we all organise search parties. It is perfectly legitimate for an adult to cut himself off from whoever he wants.

Phoned up his family the day before, and said he was looking forward to going home for xmas. No use of his mobile phone/ credit cards etc since the day he went missing.

While it may be true, the manner in which you suggest such a possibility was pretty indelicate. Jeez.

Regardless of whether Richard is alive or dead, I'm sure his family is VERY anxious to know what has happened to him!

Thankfully there are more sensitive, kind and understanding Flyertalkers than there are the likes of christep.

christep, your negative posts are not valued here at all.

I only hope this guy can be reunited with his family asap. I think bringing it to FT is a fantastic thing as there are so many of us, who knows, somebody may just be able to help!
I wish his family all the very best, I feel for them and wish I could help in some way.

Dave

I would think that NYC Fter's could try and organize some public service announcements regarding his status of missing person. I would think there is enough talent around who know how to get media involved. Surely the media in NYC could give some needed publicity and see if someone has seen him.

You would think/hope so, but the media-- especially here, is a strange bird.

In case like this, certain factors will usually determine which missing cases get media attention and which ones don't. Some things that factor in historically:
- A woman missing will get more attention then a man
- A young and/or mentally limited missing will get much more attention
- A local, camera-friendly, family will get more attention
- A probable link to a crime-- an abduction or a murder-- will get the cameras rolling
- Most obviously a high-profile or prominent family w/ media connections...

It's a shame. All missing cases should get the same attention. But they don't. Tragically if the police feel that a case is a likely suicide or a person that simply wants to disappear from his friends/family that will often color the view of any potentially interested media outlets.

Very, very sad.
