I can't make it now as I have to be in Florida that during that period. I was really looking forward to it too (and the Spa at the Sheraton). http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif
Hope you all have a great time. |
I'm out. My school schedule just won't allow it. Rats! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

Originally posted by B Watson: We will try and see if am EDI diversion is possible. About six years ago, I was staying in EDI but wanted to see the Glasgow School of Art, famous for the Charles Rennie Macintosh touches throughout. I grabbed a noon-ish train out of Edinburg (Ed-in-BER-ooh), was in Glasgow before I"d finished the crossword and at the Art School in time for the 2 o'clock tour of the art school. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif |
Can't make the May date, but I'll be in EDI the first week of August for the Fringe. Perhaps I can take the opportunity to buy you a beer at the Pleasance Courtyard that week... :-)

Sorry, can't be there - would love to, but business will not permit me. Enjoy http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

Can I reccomend two Hotels:_
Holyrood and Roxburgh. Both owned by the same company and the service is excellent. Both located in great spots. |
B Watson you're actually a fair hike the other side of Glasgow, never mind Edinburgh, but I know you'll find it in you to come and see us all at some point. Besides, we need someone to taste the wine. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif pixuk the Pleasance Courtyard is my spiritual home; in fact it was my actual home in my student days not so long ago. Would be delighted to take a drink with you in the late-night August drizzle http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif
Well, I'm pleased to say that, thanks to a little help from some friends at VisitScotland, there will be a party bag for everyone attending this event with a couple of little goodies including whisky miniatures. _________________________________ FRIDAY 2ND MAY Just a couple of us around for dinner on Friday night, so I've booked a table at Stac Polly at 29-33 Dublin Street, just a couple of streets north of Waverley Station. I suggest we meet at 8.15pm at the Circle Bar of the Cafe Royal, 19 West Register Street, tucked away in a little side street off the eastern end of Princes Street, right opposite the Balmoral Hotel. The restaurant is a very short walk away, and we have a table for 8.45pm. Given that some will be looking around the top of the Royal Mile, then perhaps 11am at EH1 bar cafe, on the corner of the Royal Mile and Cockburn Street? After that, a chance to look around the Royal Mile, at the heart of Edinburgh's Old Town, we'll be having a whisky tasting and tour at the Scottish Whisky Heritage Centre. A look round the local area, perhaps including Edinburgh Castle, the National Museum of Scotland, the medieval history of the city or our incredibly expensive and not-quite-finished new Scottish parliament building. And then some time relax with a tasty treat in the Plaisir du Chocolat which has recently reopened or one of the Royal Mile's many traditional Scottish pubs, including my local, the World's End. EVENING Dinner will be at 8.30pm at La Garrigue, 31 Jeffrey Street (off the Royal Mile) where the award-winning chef Jean-Michel Gauffre will look after us for the evening. There are already some good recommendations here, but if you're still stuck, drop me a line. As well as all the usual chains there are the good value options of Jury's Inn or the Travelodge, both of which are coincidentally right next door to Chez Jamieson. It looks like an awesome schedule, AJ! I'm looking forward to visiting Edinburgh. I haven't been there since 1993, when I happened on the Queen leaving church.
Originally posted by ajamieson: We'll be eating dinner at about 8.30pm. Just trying to get an idea of numbers; depending on the size of the party, we'll either be in La Garrigue, which is right underneath Chez Jamieson behind the Royal Mile and where the award-winning chef Jean-Michel Gauffre will look after us for the evening, or Gringo Bill's on Hanover Street, where we can enjoy great food with a tex-mex theme On the other hand, I can just feast my eyes on you in a kilt, in lieu of eating. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif |

Is it too late to sign up for the Edinburgh do? I just booked the AA net saver to LHR and am combining it with a visit to my Scottish cousin in the Highlands. Got a flight on BA to EDI for $100.80 rt and thought I would stop off and join you for Saturday. I haven't been there for a long, long time and am looking forward to seeing my mother's native land once again. I have to admit she was a Glaswegian but I'm sure you won't hold that against me. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif
Looking forward to seeing you in about ten days. Chris |
