Anyone looking for 17 missing threads from here today?
I was posting on one and it vanished. Went to refresh and others had vanished from the front page. LOTS of them. 17 it seems.
Thought it was a repeat of the FT meltdown of the last couple of days.
Posted to that effect in "Technical Issues" Forum, so as to give John and Dan the techies an early heads up that FT seemed to be collapsing again.
The reality is, by sheer chance I discovered that seventeen threads from here got moved over to the "Only Randy Petersen" Forum, but no trace of any thread was left here to point folks in that direction if you wished to follow them.
My hunch is that most of them belonged 100% in OMNI in the first place, but I am sure there is an excellent reason they all went across to Randy's forum.

ozstamps ... there's an announcement above the topic list for this forum...
-------------------------------------------------
Member "Do's" that seek to segregate.... New Announcement! posted by flyertalk (05-06-2003 through 05-13-2003)
I am alarmed at the recent rash of threads in this forum that seek to sponsor or create the apprearance of segregated "Do's." I'm sure some are in jest and we can all laugh at those, however, it is also apparent that some are taken with serious intent and that becomes a problem - especially for me. Throughout my time with frequent flyer programs and with FlyerTalk, I have sought to provide an exchange of members of these programs that allowed me to communicate and exchange with members as diverse as markbach, oz, doc, travel4free, PremEx and Punki. That is exactly how FlyerTalk will continue. I will only continue to sponsor and offer FlyerTalk if it remains a true melting pot of members - of all miles, ages and interests in these programs.
As a result, I will remove these threads related to this topic to my personal forum 'Only Randy Petersen' and will allow them to continue and perhaps even amount to something, but I can't allow them to represent in FlyerTalk Community what I think flyerTalk is all about.
You got questions? I got answers. [email protected]

My strong suggestion, FWIW, would be to give those threads a rest.
If after a few days folks feel the need to resurrect some of the subjects, they can get their due attention at that point in the appropriate forum and with the appropriate degree of courtesy and comity.
A slight breather is unlikely to hurt - waiting 72 or 96 or 120 hours to continue that discussion probably loses little - and we might all be better off for it.
I share this thought and suggestion only as my own personal take, and not in my capacity as a moderator in any forum. Take it for what it's worth, and I hope some folks might find it's worth to be greater than zero. We might even find it easier to schedule DOs (and listen to me post about posting while gazing at Freddie, Jr.
).
Best,
Gary

And that after all is what this forum is about!
Sorry to see techgirl go though. Tough to moderate and participate at the same time.

Thanks Markbach ... I had not seen that link. Makes perfect sense to me, and they really did look like the OMNI daily fare and not Community.

And for the record, I emailed each person who started those threads to let them know what happened to them and the explanation that i offered up in the Announcement. I'm sorry if anyone was confused and hope my explanation helps you understand the same basics for which FlyerTalk was founded five years ago.

Much as I looked forward to a get-together restricted to (a) skinny 60-year-old balding men with beards and glasses from the northeast U.S. who fly AA a lot and (b) unattached straight women from 18 through about that age, I don't mourn these threads' passing.
And now back to our regular programming...

I've actually chated with Randy about this and I'm going to stay on as a moderator in Community....
This certainly has been an interesting few days though.

Thanks, Randy. One of the biggest reason I like FlyerTalk and have learned so much from FlyerTalk is just because it brings together so many different types of folks.
I am thrilled that I have had the opportunity to meet such outstanding young people as TWIZ and markbach. They are both so smart I am sure that someday we can say, "I knew them when......"
So many wonderful people from so many different places with such diverse lifestyles and backgrounds. We are all so lucky for this place to expand and grow.
