SIN question -- wrt getting back into transit area

Couldn't figure out a better place to post this...

I've transited SIN before and never left the transit area. That's easy enough

But now my question is, on departure, having left the transit area previously (in other words, gone into Singapore itself), is it possible to come back to the airport and get back into the departure/transit area the night before my flight leaves? Basically, given the early hour of departure and my inherent desire to be early, I'm already thinking I'd have to get back to the airport no later than, say 3:30am. So why bother with a hotel room, thinks I, especially when my body will be telling me that it's mid-afternoon (so I know I'll never get to sleep).

Ergo, what I'd like to do is go back to the airport at 9 or 10pm, fire up the old laptop, and surf the web for a few hours before grabbing an OJ from the lounge, and then departing.

But it's not clear to me that you can do this -- IOW, do you have to already have your boarding pass for your flight the next morning? And can you get the boarding pass the night before?

Sorry for being confusing -- I appreciate everyone's help!
